Hi there. I’m Danica. Have you struggled to trust others throughout your life because something always seems to go wrong in relationships, leaving you feeling hurt, betrayed, or psychologically/emotionally drained? Is it hard to see your way to stable happiness without feeling like the other shoe will drop? I help individuals navigate and repair the aftermath of just about any sort of traumatic event you can imagine. My approach is eclectic and tailored to your needs. I use EMDR, Brainspotting, and mindfulness strategies to help you soothe your anxiety, improve depression, and neutralize the overwhelming emotions associated with trauma. Feeling fearful of relationships, lonely, anxious and depressed while others seem to be living their lives with little effort can be disheartening. Together we can improve your outlook, improve your mood, and strengthen your relationships with others so you feel supported, loved, and ultimately peaceful inside. I am excited to work with you to achieve your best self!
In our first session, I like to take the time to find out a few things about you, such as your interests, what your relationships look like, how many and what kind of pets you have (pets are always welcome in sessions), what you do for a living, etc.. I will also ask you about what brings you to me. I'm pretty good at asking questions so you don't need to be anxious about what to say or how to say it because I will collaborate with you on the narrative. Once I get a clearer idea of what the issues are, I will work with you to determine reasonable goals you would like to establish if moving forward with me is something you would like to do. Asking me questions is also highly encouraged to make sure you are matching with a therapist who will meet your needs.
I encounter clients frequently who have experienced emotionally/psychologically abusive therapists. In order to proceed with a positive rapport in our relationship, resolving any abuse or mishandling by a prior provider is one of my number one priorities. I want you to feel safe right from the start. Because pets are such an important part of individuals’ lives, I often include them in the therapeutic process since they tend to be the secret keepers in the family, especially for children. Most of us view our pets as members of the family who have distinct personalities and characteristics. They tend to be critical to our healing process and, therefore, I think they are an important addition to the therapeutic milieu.
I am comfortable working with adolescents, adults (18-100), LGBTQ+, couples, families, and foster care/adoption, emergency services personnel, veterans, and any trauma survivors. I also often incorporate family pets in the therapeutic process wherever possible
All modalities of treatment I provide are from a trauma informed care perspective whether I am using EMDR, Person-Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral, Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Existential, and a number of other approaches. The ultimate goal is to investigate the traumatic events in one's life that have contributed to adversity and to neutralize those effects.
