(she/her)
Hey there! I am a LCSW based in Illinois. I recieved my Master's degree from Aurora University and have been working in the mental health field for approximately 10 years. I have a passion for working with clients navigating addiction, who have experienced trauma and/ or have experienced involvment in the criminal justice system. I also enjoy working with teens and adults delaing with life transitions and family of origin issues. I am LGBTQ friendly and gender affirming.
In our first session we will start with introductions and then jump into what brings you to therapy and what challenges you are facing right now. We will review any and all symptoms. All of this will help us develop a game plan for your treatment. My goal is to provide an environment where you feel safe and validated. I utilize trauma-informed approaches. I incorporate somatic and mind/body work into my sessions.
I believe what makes me unique as a clinican is my ability to help clients feel heard and understood. I place high importance on the therapeutic relationship. I always provide my clients with unconditional positive regard. I want my sessions to feel like a safe, non-judgmental space.
Males with history of trauma and/or justice involvment who need help learning ways to cope with past trauma and process trauma experiences. Attachment-based
In my practice with clients, my main goal is always a strong therapeutic alliance. I find it beneficial to spend a lot of time building a strong relationship with my clients to rebuild trust that might have been fractured due to childhood trauma or poor attachment to parents or caregivers. With this strong relationship we will heal attachment and improve anxiety, depression, and overall mental functioning.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I have always preferred a person centered approach to therapy. The client guides the sessions and sessions focus on what the client needs in that moment. Clients will always be regarded as the expert in their own lives and their own experiences and we will utilize their strengths to begin healing.
Mind-body approach
I recently began focusing more on a mind and body approach especially when it comes to trauma. We store so much hurt and pain in our bodies and it is important to practice releasing it through breathing, movement, and body awareness.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize CBT when warranted or wanted as it is a great basic start to therapy. We will utilize CBT tools to look at our thoughts and beliefs and how those affect our actions and functioning. It is a more structured approach to therapy.
