LCSW-C30 years of experience

I am Thyra Jackson Benoit, LCSW-C, LICSW, LCSW, a seasoned, clinical social worker and psychotherapist, who has been in private practice for over 26 years. I have a passion for helping people. I am deeply passionate about helping people navigate life's challenges and understand that deciding to seek support for personal issues is of and I understand that taking the step to work on personal issues can often be difficult. I provide a safe, respectful, non judgmental therapeutic environment where adults can explore their challenges, concerns and goals. To be able to to explore those issues that brings one to therapy requires support

First session

During our first session, I will listen to you as you describe the concern(s) that bring you to therapy such as current challenges or goals. You do not have to share deep, personal trauma during this session. This initial session provides me with an opportunity to assess if my expertise/skills match your needs, as well as provide you with an opportunity to gauge if you feel comfortable with me.

Strengths

I take an eclectic, person-centered approach, always meeting clients where they are. I believe that understanding yourself is one of the greatest freedoms you can achieve - but it's also a process that takes time. Therapy is about growth and change, and I see my role as walking alongside you as you navigate challenges, clarify your values and develop greater self-awareness. I also believe deeply that your feelings matter and deserve space to be heard and honored. My therapeutic approach is influenced by my successful use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). These methods are effective for conditions such as anxiety, depression as well as family issues and relationship issues.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is one who is motivated to work on those issues or those goals that once resolved will enhance his/her life. Oftentimes, those concerns are characterized with anxiety, depression, difficulty in relationships such as family, work and interpersonal. Many times, no specific goals are recognized at the beginning of therapy. The concern may be "something isn't right. I can't sleep." I can't pinpoint the problem. The client may also have multiple areas that are difficult to separate and examine, but need to be idetified.

Treatment methods
