I find DBT to be relevant in treating a broad spectrum of psychopathologies. The skills within mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation and distress tolerance are practical and effective. There's an abundance of assignments I provide my clients to complete throughout the week in order to challenge themselves.
In my work with clients, I draw from Jungian theory to explore the deeper layers of the psyche — the parts of ourselves that often operate beneath conscious awareness but influence how we think, feel, and relate to the world. I help clients identify unconscious patterns, inner conflicts, and symbolic themes that show up in dreams, behaviors, and emotional responses. Using a Jungian lens, therapy becomes not only a path of healing, but also a journey of self-discovery and meaning-making. We may explore archetypes (universal roles like the Hero, the Child, the Caregiver), the shadow self (parts we’ve rejected or suppressed), and the concept of individuation — the process of becoming whole and integrating all aspects of the self.
Much of what causes anxiety and depression, and other mental illness is due to what we are thinking about rather than what is happening in the current moment. We use mindfulness-based therapy to bring our thoughts more in line with the present moment and relieve intrusive thought patterns.
I take a positive approach, focusing on strengths and using those strengths to work through the struggles that are presented in session.
Much of what we do in therapy includes using tools that are taught and shared in sessions
