I approach clients with the an open mindset, looking to explore what the client needs and what they want for themselves. I always want my clients to know there is no judgement from me in their decisions, EVER. I view everyone's mistakes as us just being human and having a human experience. This practice of examining our human journey and what motivates us to do the things we do is extended to myself, my clients and my children/family. I often attempt to have the practice of asking myself "why did I do that? Did I do that because of this or because I was feeling blank?" I think it is important to help others get to the place where they ask themselves the same type of questions. We're all here just having human experiences!
Our first session together will be a little different from all the others. I will review confidentiality as well as office policies and norms. Then we will discuss family history, your current goals and what brought you to counseling.
I feel my greatest strength is working with women's issues, including pregnancy, post-partum, motherhood and learning to gain work-life balance. Though I don't work with couples as often anymore, a strength as a provider is helping clients develop their communication skills and conflict resolution which improves family dynamics including marriage conflict and parent-child conflict.
Most clients are a great fit for my practice. You will be able to work on your anxiety and depression and develop coping strategies along with stronger communication skills and conflict resolution.
This is used in my practice to examine the relationship between thoughts, behavior, feelings and then we work together to challenge irrational thoughts.
This is used in my practice with Christian clients as bible versus are used secondarily to support client reframing thoughts and changing behaviors.
This is the best method to describe treatment within my practice because the stem of treatment is existential which helps the client focus on their purpose within the world; but, depending on what goals the client presents with, we may take a detour with solution-focused (helping the client find an immediate solution to an emergent problem). Often, CBT is coupled Radical Acceptance practices or Acceptance and Commitment, but is not limited to this, it also includes Emotion-Focused, Client centered, Motivational Interviewing.
