Welcome to McNulty Consultants. I am an individual private practitioner whose primary mission is to provide quality counseling and therapy services that enrich and empower my clients. My practice is small, with the intention to keep the work with my clients as personal as possible. My approach to therapy uses evidence-based techniques that have been demonstrated to reduce client distress and improve overall quality of life. I am an empathic listener who will help you identify what's important to you and what you your goals are. We'll collaborate, and I will offer guidance and feedback to improve your life and reach your goals.
The first session will be spent getting to know each other, collecting some basic information, and exploring how we can best collaborate and setting some primary goals. Depending on how the sessions unfold, let's introduce you to some basic strategies you may begin working on at home following our session.
I am an empathic listener and will work with you to make you feel secure and safe to share freely and begin the healing work you seek. I ask many questions, explore ideas, and draw out answers from within yourself that maybe you didn't even know you had the answers to. I will also, where appropriate, take a more direct approach and give suggestions when needed.
I work well with adults, children, and adolescents of all ages. Individuals who are struggling with anger management, overwhelming anxiety, and depression. In addition, I work with children and adolescents who exhibit distressing emotions and behavioral concerns. Clients dealing with trauma, complex trauma, LGBTQ issues, and neurodivergent concerns such as Autism and ADHD are also issues I work effectively with.
I use REBT in the treatment of anger management and mild depression. It is a Psychoeducational model that gives clients very early on in treatment tools that they can use on their own outside the therapy office to begin shifting their emotional responses to distressing situations.
Prolonged Exposure Therapy is used when a client has severe anxiety such as phobias or Obsessive Compulsive behaviors. These phobias or OCD can be very debilitating and so I will work with clients to begin slowing "exposing" them to low levels of the thing they fear and we work together to tolerate or become accustomed to the lower levels. Then gradually we can increase higher levels of the thing that is distressing them. I work with each client to create a hierarchy of their fears within their phobia and we work together to become more comfortable before moving on the the next level.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an action-focused psychotherapy within the family of mindfulness-based approaches derived from traditional behavior and cognitive-behavioral therapies. It helps clients stop avoiding, denying, and battling their inner emotions. Instead, they learn to acknowledge these deeper feelings as natural responses to specific situations, allowing them to move forward without being held back. Through this approach, clients accept their difficulties and commit to making meaningful changes in their behavior, irrespective of external circumstances or emotional states. ACT is a broad spectrum model used in therapy to treat issues ranging from compulsive behaviors, addictions, anxiety, depression, anxiety, couples conflicts, life transitions, and more. ACT is a client-centered approach, and I work with each client to set goals and support them in taking the steps needed to move toward the values that are important to them.
