I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in central Texas. I believe that we are all beings who want healing in all aspects of our life: physical, emotional, social and spiritual. The differences between the emotional health we have and the health we want can create tension between our current situation and our self image and power. Often, we don't know how to make lasting changes. That change struggle can be too difficult to face without strong support and the realization someone understands, supports and affirms your ability to learn new coping skills. My counseling approach is educational, and we begin with where you are emotionally now. I value treating everyone with respect and kindness. We move at your pace. I will assign homework if you want to move more quickly.
First we will get to know each other a little bit, enough to feel comfortable with each other. Then we will discuss what brings you to therapy and what your goals are. I will probably educate you of some of your concerns you may not be aware of and how those issues are typically treated successfully. Next, we will start more specific goal setting. We will discuss how we need to set up a working theory on how best to reach those goals. You know yourself better than I will and I need your input on our working theories as to their viability for you and your situation. I see myself as the partner with some education and experience that may support you as you heal. We move at your pace.
Respect, kindness, experience, education, and openness to new treatment modalities.
I have been practicing for a few decades and have good success in treating depression, boundary issues, anxiety, relationship issues, self-esteem, trauma and narcissistic abuse and trauma bonding.
CBT is the most researched and successful therapy approach. I use it for most all initial treatment plans, issues and concerns as a basis for goal setting and education in the direction you want your therapy to go. However I also use a variety of techniques to best meet the needs and situation, from Neurolinguistics Programing. light trance work, and motivational interviewing.
I am a Christian, but do not include this spiritual aspect into out process unless invited to do so. I would also ask that if you do want a Christian component you are transparent with me as to the degree or focus you are comfortable with in sessions. Scripture references would be a good example of your preferences.
We can pick one area of your life you want to improve and focus just on that. This maybe a good option for you if the issue typically is situation or person specific. Larger picture underlying issues may be acknowledged, but not delved into.
