My name is Ebony Brown. I am an LCSW with a background in trauma-focused and mindfulness-based approaches. I work with individuals who are looking to overcome past challenges, build emotional resilience, and develop practical skills to navigate everyday life. I tailor each session to your unique strengths and goals, and I’m excited to support you on your journey. I enjoy what I do!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, we’ll spend some time getting to know each other and talking about what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask about your background, your goals, any challenges you’re facing, and what you hope to get from our work together. We’ll also discuss how we’ll structure our sessions and any specific approaches I might use. By the end, you’ll have a clear sense of the plan, and we’ll take it at a pace that feels right for you.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I’ve worked both in community settings and in private practice, so I’ve seen a wide range of challenges people face—from high-stress environments to more intimate, personal struggles. Plus, I bring a background in mindfulness, which helps me keep clients grounded, and I’m really comfortable integrating different approaches so that we find exactly what works best for each person.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is someone who desires and is open to change for themselves. They’re open to a practical, time-limited approach, and they want to focus on solutions, rather than just the problem itself. Also, they should understand that therapy is a process, not a quick fix. It takes time, effort, and sometimes a bit of discomfort to really see change. My ideal client would also learn/know it’s a safe, judgment-free space, and that they’re in control of their goals. And finally, it’s really a partnership—so they should feel free to speak up, ask questions, and adjust their path as necessary.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT by helping people track their emotions and the situations that trigger them. So, we break down a tough moment—what they were thinking, feeling, and doing—and we map out patterns. Then, we use practical exercises—like thought records or behavioral experiments—to help them see how shifting their thinking can actually change how they feel and act. It’s really collaborative, and that’s part of what makes it so effective. CBT is really versatile—it can be super helpful for people dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD, or even things like anger or chronic pain. Basically, if someone’s struggling with how they think about or react to situations, CBT is a great fit. It’s really structured, so it works well for a lot of different ages and backgrounds, and it gives people practical skills they can use long-term.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I use it to help people develop a stronger awareness of the present moment—things like noticing their breath, body sensations, or thoughts, without judgment. In practice, I guide clients through short mindfulness exercises—like body scans or mindful breathing—so they can learn to stay calmer, more focused, and better able to respond to stress. It’s all about creating a space to just be with yourself, so you can make more intentional choices.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

I use EFT by first creating a safe space for the client—so they feel comfortable sharing their emotions. Then, I help them identify those underlying emotional patterns, especially around conflict or disconnection. I guide them through expressing those vulnerable emotions and then help them reshape how they respond to each other. Over time, this helps them build more secure, connected relationships, and I use it both in individual work and with couples.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I use trauma-focused CBT is by pacing the treatment carefully. I start with building trust and safety, then we introduce gradual exposure to the trauma memory—but in a way that feels manageable. I also incorporate skills like cognitive restructuring to help them reframe their thoughts. By doing this in a structured way, clients feel more in control, and it helps them process the trauma without being overwhelmed.

Strength-Based

in my experience, a strength-based treatment method is really about focusing on the client’s existing strengths, resilience, and resources. I use it by helping them recognize what they already do well—like personal skills, relationships, or past successes—and then we build on those. In practice, I guide clients to set goals based on their strengths, so they feel empowered and capable. It’s really collaborative—we focus on what’s going right, so they have a roadmap for progress even in tough times.
