John West
I have been a professional counselor since 2003 and have worked as an individual and family therapist, university dean, teacher, Christian school principal, and pastor. I utilize an eclectic and integrative counseling approach that he tailors for each client, using techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, biblical counseling, and family systems. I have served a wide variety of people and I view each person as a unique and wondrous work of art.
First session
In the first session I work to gain trust and a therapeutic alliance with the client. It is an honor to get to know my clients and for them to trust me with their story. The first session is key because I get a chance to listen and understand my client and to establish a safe harbor in the midst of their storm.
Strengths
What makes me unique is my ability to gain insight and empathy for my clients to help them heal and grow. I bring a long history of experience with treating a wide variety of clients but I am just as honored to work with each client, as if they are my very first.
Ideal clients
I have helped many men, women, families, and soldiers to heal and grow from grief, trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, parenting challenges, divorce recovery, and spousal abuse. I specialize in helping people to heal from shame, grief, resentment, and trauma.
