Hi! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I received my master's degree at Prairie View A&M University in 2011. I have been practicing therapy/counseling since 2016. I spend time understanding in a deep and connected way how you are experiencing your life. With support and non-judgmental curiosity, I will look below the surface. I may examine family of origin dynamics, core beliefs you hold about yourself and where you may have learned them, values you have and how your choices do or do not support them, and when and how you limit yourself or get in your own way.
In our first session, I will spend time building a rapport as well as gather information from you that will assist me with formulating a therapeutic plan for future sessions.
In our busy lives, we tend to avoid or not even notice our feelings until they suddenly demand our attention. I will encourage you to mindfully move into these (sometimes uncomfortable) feelings as, when honored and released, they can be fantastic guides. It is paramount that the relationship between us feels supportive and serves as a container in which you can explore honestly, freely and bravely. It is my first priority to make therapy a space where you feel seen and understood. Meeting this priority factors prominently into the work.
Martha Lopez-Fowler offers therapy covered by Medicaid - Superior HealthPlan, Superior HealthPlan (Managed Medicaid) and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Texas.
I've been using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for the past six years. I use CBT due its effectiveness in addressing maladaptive thinking patterns that contribute to uncomfortable or negative feelings that promote unhelpful behaviors and reactions. This method is useful for a variety of challenges such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, perfectionism, etc.
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) techniques in order to address immediate concerns and any existing challenges for individual and couple's therapy. SFBT focuses on finding practical solutions and emphasizing the client's strengths. Implementing this approach may help the client or clients gain momentum in their therapeutic journey.
I have been utilizing Mindfulness Based therapy for three years to assist clients that have challenges with being in the moment and address the emotional incongruity, enhance self-awareness, and promote overall well-being. By incorporating mindfulness techniques, the client may develop a greater understanding of their emotional state.
I have three years experience with grief therapy. I utilize it to help clients work through the pain of grief while helping them adjust to living life without their deceased loved ones or the ending of important relationships.
