New to Grow
Hi! I am a clinically licensed psychotherapist who works with adults in the areas of anxiety, caregiving, self-esteem, life transitions, and career coaching. I earned my Master’s of Science in social work from Columbia University and developed my own private practice where I use an integrative approach to therapy and evidence-based modalities. By providing a safe and nurturing environment, my goal will be to help you explore your needs and goals.
In our first session, I will ask questions about you and what brought you to therapy. I’ll focus on what you’re hoping to achieve in our time together and how I might be of help to you. Based on your needs, comfort, and prior experience with therapy, I’ll outline our next steps and approaches that we can use to help you with your goals. Most often, I like to start with a strengths-based approach, and throughout our partnership, I will also pull from various evidence-based modalities, including mindfulness techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) practices, and motivational interviewing to boost your well-being and autonomy. My main goal is to follow your lead or offer guidance in a way that is personal and tailored to you.
I’ve always had a strong desire to make life better for people and curiosity about the human mind. Once I began learning more about behavior and the mind, I started to learn more about myself and how I could be helpful to others. This led me to a path of working in mental health in various settings. Having worked in hospitals, schools, government, private companies, and community organizations, I credit my experience—which ranges from being a direct clinical service provider to an executive-level leader—as giving me the ability to work on a variety of issues and problems. I've also been humbled by how much there is left to learn. This is why I love being a therapist (I have been clinically licensed since 2014). Working in partnership with my clients allows me time to learn about their experiences and feelings and—essentially—how I can help them move more easily and confidently in the world.
In my experience as a therapist, I enjoy helping clients navigate the complexities of every-day life. My work is in supporting adults navigate the complexities of general anxiety, life transitions, work-related stress, interpersonal relationships, and general mental well-being. Additionally, I offer a specialized niche in addressing the unique challenges of caregiver stress, particularly for those navigating the emotional and practical journey of Alzheimer's and dementia care.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I often incorporate CBT into our sessions. My clients have found it most helpful in identifying thought patterns, and it also helps them challenge recurring thoughts and manage anxiety. We’ll use CBT regularly as a way to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact with one another. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a more relaxed and less stressful life.
Humanistic
In our sessions, it is my goal to create a safe and comfortable space where you can explore your authentic self and work towards your full potential. Using a humanistic approach allows me to focus on your unique experiences and strengths, believing that you have the inherent capacity for growth and self-healing. My goal is to help you to gain self-awareness and make choices that align with your true values.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I've found that teaching a range of mindfulness techniques like breathing techniques and grounding exercises, is a great approach to empower my clients to respond to challenges thoughtfully and intentionally rather than reacting automatically. I'll often teach and demonstrate these skills in our sessions which you can use to develop greater emotional regulation and gain insight into your own present-moment thoughts and bodily sensations, without judgement.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational interviewing is helpful when my clients benefit from confronting and exploring their own ambivalence about change. I find this helps my clients strengthen their confidence and reduces their anxiety and fear related to change. I'll focus on using open-ended questions, reflective listening, and affirmations, in collaboration with you so we can work towards guiding you to support your own autonomy.
Strength-Based
I have found that all my clients possess their own innate strengths. By using a strengths-based approach in our sessions, we will explore and build upon your personal existing skills, resources, and resilience. When my clients highlight and focus on what works well for them, it leads to confidence and a sense of courage and empowerment.
