Henry Tama
Hello, my name is Dr. Henry Tama, DNP, PMHNP-BC, and I am a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care for adolescents and adults in a supportive, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment. I believe that every individual deserves personalized care that addresses not only mental health symptoms but also overall well-being. My approach is grounded in the principles of compassionate nursing and collaborative psychiatric care, recognizing that lasting healing occurs when patients feel heard, understood, and empowered. I work with children, adolescents and adults experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), trauma, stress, life transitions, and substance use challenges. Every treatment plan is individualized to meet each person's unique needs, goals, and circumstances. My services include comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, supportive psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral techniques (CBT), and wellness-focused strategies designed to promote emotional resilience and long-term recovery. I strive to build strong therapeutic relationships based on trust, empathy, and open communication, creating a safe space where clients can explore challenges and develop practical tools for lasting change. Whether you are seeking support for a new concern or managing a long-term mental health condition, I am committed to partnering with you throughout your journey toward improved mental health, greater balance, and an enhanced quality of life. Together, we can work toward meaningful, sustainable progress and help you achieve your personal wellness goals.
First session
At your initial appointment, you can expect a warm, compassionate, and judgment-free environment where your concerns, experiences, and goals are the focus. I understand that taking the first step toward mental health care can feel overwhelming, and I strive to create a safe space where you feel heard, respected, and supported. During our first visit, I will complete a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. This includes discussing your medical and mental health history, current symptoms, medications, lifestyle, social support, and other factors that may influence your overall well-being. Taking this whole-person approach helps me better understand your unique needs and develop a personalized treatment plan. Together, we will review treatment options that may include medication management, therapy recommendations, lifestyle modifications, and self-care strategies. I will explain the benefits, potential risks, and expected outcomes of each option so you can make informed decisions about your care. Your questions, preferences, and concerns are an important part of the decision-making process, and we will work collaboratively to determine the best path forward. Your privacy and confidentiality are fundamental to our therapeutic relationship. My goal is to build a trusting partnership where you feel comfortable discussing your concerns openly and confidently as we work together toward improving your mental health and overall quality of life.

Ideal clients
I work with children, adolescents and adults experiencing ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, stress, trauma, and life transitions. My practice is best suited for individuals who are ready to actively participate in their care and value a collaborative, compassionate approach to treatment. I strive to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard and respected. By integrating evidence-based psychotherapy with medication management when appropriate, I help clients achieve symptom relief, build resilience, and improve their overall quality of life. I welcome clients who value open and honest communication and are committed to working together toward meaningful, lasting change. You do not have to have everything figured out to begin—only a willingness to take the first step.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps patients identify and change unhelpful thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that contribute to psychological distress. Unlike motivational interviewing, which focuses on enhancing readiness for change, CBT emphasizes recognizing how thoughts influence feelings and behaviors. The central principle of CBT is that it is often not the situation itself that causes distress, but rather the individual's interpretation of that situation. By identifying and challenging distorted thinking patterns, patients can develop healthier ways of thinking and responding.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational interviewing is a patient-centered communication style designed to help people explore and resolve ambivalence about behavior change. Rather than telling patients what they should do, motivational interviewing encourages them to identify their own reasons and motivation for making changes. This collaborative approach strengthens a person's commitment to change by drawing on their own values, goals, and confidence.
