New to Grow
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who was born and raised in the Caribbean and immigrated to the United States at age twelve. I obtained my Master's Degree from Columbia University in Social Work and have been a licensed clinician for nine years. I work with clients that struggle with depression, anxiety, self esteem, life transitions, trauma, substance misuse, psychosis, mood disorders, to name a few. My goal as a therapist is to always meet the client where they are; to provide a space where the client is heard and validated; to provide guidance, empathy, and support to allow the client to build on their own strengths to in turn process and overcome their life challenges.
Our first session will focus on getting know each other. The primary focus will be learning about your history in various areas, and how it leads up to the here and now, in your decision to seek treatment at this time. We will focus on establishing treatment goals and discuss what our treatment can look like as we move forward together.
I use cognitive behavioral therapy to guide clients in understanding the correlation between thoughts, emotions and behaviors and how to intervene in this cycle to better manage difficult emotions and thoughts. I also utilize acceptance and commitment therapy to help with reducing the struggle with difficult thoughts and emotions, developing self-compassion, and live a life guided by values.
I primarily work with adults but also have experience working with adolescence population. I specialized in working with individuals who experience anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, substance abuse, psychosis, bipolar disorder, and life transitions, to name a few. Our work together will be tailored to your unique needs. This will be a partnership, as your voice matters too. So if you are ready, let us begin this journey together!
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I utilize ACT modality to help guide clients towards acceptance of the things that are outside of their control, and shift to a focus on committed action, guided by their values, to help achieve their desired goals. Mindfulness techniques are utilized through ACT modality to teach clients how to weather the internal emotional and cognitive storms we tend to struggle with so that we can refocus on the here and now and on our committed actions to attain desired goals.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize cognitive behavioral health as a way to help clients understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors correlate and in turn help clients to break patterns relating to unhelpful thinking patterns and unhelpful behaviors to then better regulate emotions to get to an overall better quality of life.
