I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Master of Social Work degree in 1992. I am dually and independently licensed in mental health (Licensed Independent Social Worker-Supervisor or LISW-S) and substance abuse (Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor - Clinical Supervisor or LICDC-CS). I started out working with children and families, foster care, and adoption at non-profit agencies, helping families to overcome obstacles to success. For the past 25 years, I have worked with men and women who are struggling with stress, depression, anxiety, anger, relationship issues, mental health issues, substance use issues, and other issues, to learn the skills and thought processes needed to become successful. I specialize in Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Anger Management, Life Transitions, Stress Management, Women's Issues, and Ethnicity/Diversity Issues.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we will do brief introductions and discuss what brings you to therapy. Then I will ask questions related to your background so that I can develop a better understanding of your needs. Then will end by identifying your specific goals for therapy, develop an individualized treatment plan to fit your unique needs, and discuss how I can help.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I use a combination of my education, life experience, job experience, and Best Practices to identify the best approach for your current issue(s). The world can be traumatizing at times, and we may sometimes get tired and want to give up. There is hope! I believe we each have what we need inside of us to live the life we imagined; sometimes we just need a little help. Sometimes we just need someone who will listen to us, work with us, and walk with us to achieve what appeared to be the unachievable.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have used Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for over 20 years. While it is not the only approach, and your needs may vary, CBT is based on evidence based research and is best practice for many issues. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you learn how your thought process impacts the choice you make, which can determine your success. I also use Motivational Interviewing to meet you where you are, and learn where you would like to be. I utilze other therapeutic strategies as needed, as your specific needs may vary.
