Erin Borum
I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner licensed in TN and CA. I specialize in combining medical, psychological, and holistic care principles to address mental health needs across the lifespan. I love working with all age ranges and have significant experience in crisis management with both children and adults. I consider the whole person, including physical, emotional, social, and environmental factors, in the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions.
First session
To ensure we have a productive first visit, please be sure to fill out your intake form in advance! During our first visit, we will complete a full mental health assessment and evaluation. There will be lots of questions during this visit, especially regarding your medical and mental health history. Working together to determine an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan is important for your mental health. This may require multiple appointments. Controlled medications may be available from my practice on a limited basis. All paperwork, such as FMLA and related, will only be considered after several sessions of treatment and as clinically indicated. Once we have completed your evaluation, we can then discuss a treatment plan specific to your needs that will get you on the road to feeling better as soon as possible!
Strengths
I consider the whole person, including physical, emotional, social, and environmental factors, in the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions. I create a safe and open environment for care and prefer to work collaboratively with the population I serve.
Treatment methods
Child-Parent Psychotherapy
Child-Parent Psychotherapy is particularly valuable to me because it integrates developmental psychiatry, trauma treatment, attachment theory, and family systems work, allowing us to address both psychiatric symptoms and the underlying relationship factors contributing to a young child’s emotional and behavioral difficulties.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as an evidence-based psychotherapy approach to help patients identify and change unhelpful thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that contribute to mental health symptoms. I provide CBT directly or incorporate CBT principles into medication management visits.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
I like to use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) as a psychotherapy modality to help individuals, couples, and families identify and change maladaptive emotional patterns and strengthen secure emotional bonds. EFT is grounded in attachment theory and focuses on emotions as the primary drivers of behavior and relationships.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is used in my practice as a patient-centered, collaborative counseling approach designed to strengthen a patient’s own motivation and commitment to change. MI is particularly useful when my patients are ambivalent about treatment, medications, behavior change, and/or recovery.
Psychoeducation
I use psychoeducation as a therapeutic intervention to provide patients and families with information about mental health conditions, treatment options, coping skills, and recovery strategies. Psychoeducation empowers my patients to understand their symptoms, participate in treatment decisions, and improve adherence to treatment recommendations.
