My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I've been using CBT in my practice for the past fourteen years. I find that it helps clients to develop practical coping skills to manage their emotions and navigate challenging situations more effectively. Methods that I may use with individuals is relaxation techniques, problem-solving strategies and communication skills. I also find that CBT can assist individuals in recognizing and understanding unhelpful thoughts that could can contribute to emotional distress and problematic behaviors. Through techniques such as cognitive restructuring, individuals learn to challenge these thoughts and replace them with more balanced and realistic perspectives. I have seen this happen countless times with individuals in my own practice. Additionally, I have witnessed how CBT can helps individuals to set realistic and achievable goals that align with their values and desired outcomes. This allows from individuals and I to collaborate on ways to achieve those outcomes.

Eclectic

Over the years working with individuals, that no one fits perfectly into one treatment modality. I like utilizing eclectic therapy as it allows me to collaborate with an individuals and create a customized treatment plan. Eclectic therapy allows for flexibility and comes from several different modalities. Although I may use different treatment modalities, all of the techniques that we will discuss in treatment as options, are evidenced based. Eclectic therapy can provide a holistic view of an individual such as considering their physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being. We are able to recognize and honor in treatment how mental health is influenced by various factors and treatment may involve addressing multiple aspects of a person's life.

Faith based therapy

Faith based therapy is about specific religions but it also allows for the exploration of spirituality or seeking a deeper connection to something greater than oneself. i have utilized faith based therapy with several clients to allow them the freedom to explore, define and incorporate their individual identities of spirituality or religion. When working with individuals and using faith-based therapy, I like the holistic aspect of it as it allows for interconnectedness of mind, body and spirit. It addresses not only the psychological and emotional aspects of a individual's well-being but also their spiritual health.

Group Therapy

i have used group therapy for several years in my practice. Group therapy can be effective for individuals to address their shared or individual challenges, while with a trained therapist. It provides a unique space where people can connect with others facing similar struggles, offering a sense of belonging and support. Completing group with a trained therapist helps with guiding the group, setting the tone, collaborating to establish group rules and helping to faciliate discussions. Additionally, I work with individuals in group therapy to develop coping mechanisms, communication skills, and strategies to manage their challenges effectively. However, the power of group therapy that I have seen in my years has been in the support and encouragement members offer each other. They can empathize with each other's experiences, share insights and celebrate progress.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

With all of the individuals who trust to work with me, I want to be culturally sensitive. i strive to learn about the individuals who are align with in their journey. This includes specifics about them and their cultural background, including but not limited to their history, traditions, values and communication styles. This understanding helps me to interpret an individual's/family's experiences within their cultural context and avoid misinterpretations or stereotypes. This is an area that I stay firm with in my practice, especially being a person of color and understanding how I experience the world may be different than how another person of color or cultures experiences it. i do feel that i can relate to individuals within my culture, especially women.
