Many people don’t seek treatment or therapy but you’re already on this path. Some folks don’t find the path. You’ve got some idea of what you need and are ready for someone to be along with you on this journey. We both know humans succeed in a team not so much when we are alone. First, give yourself credit because it takes a lot of courage to not do things alone and to be willing to open up to someone you do not know. Your courage is where our journey together starts. It would be an honor to be a part of your team in life, for life! Oh, hi, by the way, I’m Shakera Snelling. I am a dual-certified psychiatric and family nurse practitioner: I diagnose, prescribe, and utilize therapy for mental health conditions and medical conditions. A diagnosis or symptoms helps us to figure out a plan together, but it is NOT who you are.( Yeah, I know you heard that before, but it’s true!). High blood pressure does not define that person. Borderline personality, antisocial personality, obsessive-compulsive disorder, ADHD, substance use disorder, anxiety disorder, phobias, psychosis, self-harm, suicide attempts, and trauma does not define you either. Please KNOW you’re way more amazing, beautiful, and complex than a label. Let’s get started!
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
First session, we will discuss what your goals are for our appointment together, we will discuss your development, starting with early development and childhood, attachment to parental figure, and reflect on life prior to discussing current events. After the life review, we will discuss the present. We will hone in on a diagnosis together and follow through with medication treatment and psychotherapy.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT skills are life skills and essential not just for clients with Borderline personality disorder or trauma: everyone can benefit! Based on Buddism and Mindfulness, which are well studied to have effects on our brain, this is a therapy everyone should embark upon
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
There is something to the effects of our thoughts. It's important to validate these thoughts and also make sure we are noticing if some of these thoughts are helpful or not. Sometimes, through the lens of anxiety (like having on bifocals, focusing in and not seeing the big picture) or depression (like having dark, fogging, and dirty sunglasses on) our brains can give us information that is not complete. So, we work together to reframe and see things more clearly.
