New to Grow
I help high achieving women work through things in their life making them anxious - like work performance, building friendships in their empty nester life, and creating a more meaningful relationship with their spouse or partner. Self-care and learning how to manage anxiety before it gets to a panic attack is so important. I can teach you how to do that. I also like working with moms who are struggling to find the the "new" relationship with their adult children - from establishing financial boundaries and learning how to individuate from your adult children. I also help those who have experienced the deep pain of church hurt and are looking to find a way back to God. I have been practicing since 1998, am licensed in Maryland, and provide telehealth therapy to anyone living in Maryland. Telehealth therapy is easy to use and very convenient from your own home, your parked car, or a quiet office. You can use any device such as a cell phone, tablet, or computer.
One thing my Maryland clients are surprised about upon first session is my Southern speaking voice. That same accent is where my warmth and friendliness comes from. I have been known to put people at ease upon the first meeting. I spend a lot of time listening and hearing about your situation. Then we come up with a plan to help you take that very next step to feeling better. I work very hard at getting you to that next growth step in your life. I know you are here because you are tired of doing the same thing getting the same results. I want to see you grow just as much as you do!
With the past agencies I've worked with I was quoted as "one of top 5 therapists in our practice" (out of 150 therapists). I am frequently booked (when I have an opening) and have great rapport with my clients. If we don't, I make sure that I find you a therapist who is more your preference. Good fit is essential for the therapeutic process to work. I have the advantage of having a lot of life experience because of my age and being married for over 24 years in addition to professional training in the areas I specialize in.
I help high-achieving women who may have perfectionistic or anxiety tendencies. I also help clients who have experienced church "hurt" or trauma and can't seem to find their way back to the church or wonder if they should. I have special training in this area. Women in high conflict relationships especially those in a relationship with a narcissist. Moms or adult children who are trying to find the new normal in their new adult relationship.
Christian Counseling
As a Christian for most of my life, I think counseling from a Christian perspective is the foundation for any Believer in how they see their world view. While I also see things from a Psychological perspective, I also incorporate prayer and Scripture into my therapy with Christian clients who desire therapy in this way.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
With my anxiety clients, I challenge irrational, repetitive thinking patterns and help you recognize how your thoughts, feelings and actions influence each other.
Gottman method
I use the Gottman method a lot in my therapy with couples. We will discover together why you keep having the same argument and the root causes that lead you to therapy. I will teach you how to communicate better with each other and understand the other person's viewpoint using a variety of Gottman modalities.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I have been trained in IFS and sometimes use this therapy when your emotions seem confusing or you are having a difficult time identifying them.
Attachment-based
I often also used attachment-based therapy in Couples therapy. We find out if you are Anxious-Preoccupied, (or a Vacilator), Dissmissive-Avoidant, Fearful-Avoidant, or Disorganized.
