Romalee Droba -

LPCC11 years of experience

I understand many people don’t race to see a therapist. You may be asking yourself "Why Therapy? Do I really need to see a therapist? Will it really help?" These are normal questions to ask. Afterall, working on sensitive areas of your life or recalling unpleasant memories in order to get to a better place in your life isn’t always fun and can feel a little scary. Yet here you are. The positive benefits you can acquire in the long run from therapy can far outweigh those times of uncomfortableness if you are willing to trust the process. Whatever your situation, you can expect to be treated with respect, empathy, and understanding. While I do not personally have the power to change any person or circumstance – I can support you, offer new paths, strategies, perspectives, skills and hope. I have the experience, knowledge, and compassion to assist you towards getting to a better place. I believe that the therapist/client relationship is a key component to seeing progress and will make that relationship a priority by providing you a safe, nurturing, trusting and confidential atmosphere allowing communication to be at its best. .As Martin Luther King said "You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." Congratulations on taking your first step! I hold a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Alcohol and Drug Counseling and am dually licensed as a Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) with over 11 years of experience. Some of the areas I specialize in are: Relationships (couples/marriage, family, divorce, stepfamilies) Mental Health challenges (depression, anxiety, PTSD, Grief) Drug and Alcohol Addictions (Education, and Recovery Support for the addict and their loved ones) and utilize therapeutic methods such as DBT, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems.

First session

At the first session we will take some time to get to know one another, review the reason(s) for seeking counseling and together set some goals for living a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life. We will go over and complete any forms that may be necessary and you can ask any questions that you may have of the process to ensure a smooth start to your therapy experience. Each session that follows, we will review the progress towards your goals and focus on the healing process. I am here to guide that process and support you, especially during those times when you feel stuck.

Strengths

One size does not fit all. That is why I practice as an eclectic therapist meaning, I have the experience and competency to utilize various therapeutic methods rather than focusing on just one method. If one method does not help you, we will try a different method or blend methods that may work better for your specific problem. Be assured that this will be done in a safe and careful way to help you heal and grow.

Ideal clients

My ideal client or couple would be between the ages of 18-65 who has taken the brave step and decided to reach out for help. A willingness to be open to explore and engage in what may be uncomfortable areas with the goal of healing so that life may take on a new and revitalized sense of happiness and purpose.

Treatment methods

Couples Counseling

Using an eclectic treatment approach, together we will uncover the strengths that keep your relationship in tact and those areas where uncoupling can or may already be occurring. I will help you explore ways to help with communication, understand individual attachment styles and how they affect the relationship and offer some solutions that may improve the health and happiness of your relationship.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

These are skills that I can teach you that when practiced regularly can help with your Interpersonal Effectiveness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation and basic Mindfulness needs. We take your specific scenarios that cause distress, emotional dysregulation, chaos, impulsivity etc. and we implement skills into these events with the goal of reducing mental health symptoms and negative behaviors.

EMDR

EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This is a specific method that I use that helps your brain process and heal from traumatic memories that goes beyond just talking about the past. You focus on a painful memory and I will add a form of bilateral stimulation (side to side stimulation which mimics the way your brain processes information during REM (dreaming) sleep. ) This gets the brain's natural healing system unstuck. The memory isn't erased, but the emotional distress linked to it fades. We then reframe the memory so that it no longer causes a "fight or flight" response in your daily life. This method is primarily used to treat PTSD, Anxiety and deep-rooted life stressors.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

All of your "Parts" are welcome! In this treatment method we will explore the different parts in the mind that surround the core of who you are; The Self., the part that is undamaged by trauma and naturally possesses qualities like calmness, compassion and curiosity. These parts are named Exile, Manager and Fire Fighter with each name giving InSite into the role it plays in your life. Focusing on a specific emotion, thought or behavior we determine which part is at work trying to protect you from something; asking what? and why? When that is uncovered the Core of who you are (Self) can now handle the situation without the help of these parts . The part that has been protecting is now able to be freed from the heavy emotional burdens it has been carrying trying to protect The Self is the part The goal is to identify the part (exile, manager, or firefighter) by focusing on a specific emotion, thought or behavior and determine what that part is trying to protect you from? When that is uncovered the Core of who you are Self (the part that is not touched by trauma or unhealed emotions) can now handle the situation/emotion with calmness, peacefulness, and confidence without the help of these parts . The part is now able to be freed from the heavy emotional burdens it has been carrying trying to protect.

Eclectic

Rather than a one size fits all approach using one treatment method to meet your goals, the eclectic approach allows me to draw from many different treatment avenues that I am well versed in so as to customize your therapy. A mix and match type approach until we find the best course of treatment for your needs.
