Jane Waweru
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with over 8 years of experience providing comprehensive mental health care. I am dedicated to delivering compassionate, patient-centered treatment to individuals across the lifespan, addressing a wide range of psychiatric conditions including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and trauma-related concerns. I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of South Alabama, where I developed a strong clinical foundation in evidence-based psychiatric care. My approach combines medication management with supportive and therapeutic interventions, emphasizing collaboration, trust, and individualized care.
By combining clinical knowledge with compassion and strong communication skills, I am able to support clients through challenges while helping them develop realistic goals, coping strategies, and long-term stability.
I strive to create a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where patients feel empowered to actively participate in their mental health journey. My goal is to support each individual in achieving emotional stability, resilience, and an improved quality of life.
First session
Beginning treatment can feel like a big step, and my goal during our first session is to help clients feel comfortable, supported, and heard. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I strive to create a welcoming and judgment-free environment where clients can openly discuss their concerns, experiences, and goals. During the initial appointment, I focus on getting to know the client as a whole person—not just the symptoms they may be experiencing. We discuss current concerns, mental health and medical history, lifestyle factors, stressors, sleep patterns, relationships, and previous treatment experiences. This comprehensive assessment helps guide an individualized treatment plan tailored to each client’s needs. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based. I incorporate psychoeducation, supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness-based strategies while exploring treatment options, including medication management when appropriate. Clients can expect open communication, active listening, and a partnership focused on healing, growth, and long-term wellness. My goal is to empower clients with the tools, support, and guidance needed to help them achieve emotional balance and improve their quality of life.
Strengths
My greatest strength as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is my ability to build trusting, compassionate, and therapeutic relationships with clients. I believe that genuine listening, empathy, and creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment are essential to effective mental health care. I take a patient-centered and collaborative approach, ensuring that clients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their treatment decisions. By combining clinical knowledge with compassion and strong communication skills, I am able to support clients through challenges while helping them develop realistic goals, coping strategies, and long-term stability. I am also committed to treating the whole person by considering emotional, physical, social, and environmental factors that impact mental health. My goal is to empower clients, promote resilience, and provide care that is both evidence-based and individualized to each person’s unique needs.
Ideal clients
My ideal psychiatric clients are individuals who are open to growth, healing, and self-discovery, regardless of where they are in their mental health journey. I work best with clients who value collaboration, honesty, and a supportive therapeutic relationship. I enjoy helping adolescents and adults facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, stress, ADHD, behavioral concerns, and life transitions. I am especially passionate about working with clients who are motivated to improve their overall wellbeing, develop healthy coping skills, and actively participate in treatment planning. Whether someone is seeking medication management, psychotherapy support, psychoeducation, or guidance through difficult life experiences, I strive to provide compassionate, evidence-based, and individualized care in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. I also value working with clients who may feel unheard, overwhelmed, or uncertain about treatment and want a provider who listens, educates, and partners with them to achieve meaningful mental health goals.
