(she/her)
Hi, my name is Luz, my pronouns are she/her/hers, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I worked as a teacher for over 15 years before making the journey into a community mental health career. I have experience in mobile crisis response, trauma, forensic mental health concerns. To explain who I am as a therapist, I reflect back to my role as an educator. In the classroom, there was a movement for the teacher to be less of a “sage on the stage” (teacher-centered approach) and more of a “guide on the side” (student-centered). To me, therapy is a lesson plan for a learning experience. It's a guide to develop what the client needs to learn in order to cope with whatever barriers are showing up in the client's life, whether that barrier is an internal issue, such as self-image, or how to cope with work stress. My therapeutic perspective is to provide empathetic, non-judgmental, compassionate guidance and support in an atmosphere of respect and safety while allowing clients to be the experts of their lives, much like “a co-pilot, a sous chef, or an assistant manager” of a client-therapist relationship. I use solution-focused elements to help move toward desired goals, cognitive behavioral techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts, and motivational interviewing to help gain understanding and clarity. Outside of traditional therapy, I enjoy the practices of mindfulness, guided meditation, aromatherapy, and Reiki. Finding a therapist that's the right fit can be a challenging task, but taking that first step towards a healthier you is worth it. I look forward to working with you to help break down those barriers and make progress in areas that most matter to you.
Our first session is typically dedicated brief introductions to see if we're a good therapeutic fit. As we move forward, we focus on the specific challenges being faced at this moment. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy, but I am also trained in EMDR Therapy.
All clients are unique, therefore I tailor my approach to meet their needs.
I focus on working with individuals who are willing and eager to make changes in their lives, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. They often feel stuck or overwhelmed about a certain aspect of life.

Luz provides a warm and welcoming brave space where I was able to express myself in a safe place. She vividly listened and provided compassion. I also appreciate the strategies she indicated to help me work towards my goal. Thank you Luz!

. Luz is someone who brought a smile to my face when I least expected it. The past few weeks have been challenging because I was officially moving to North Carolina, and that transition has not been easy. I truly appreciated the time we spent talking about everything I needed to express. Luz was attentive, caring, and made me feel comfortable and understood. We talked about many meaningful things, and I genuinely appreciate her kindness, professionalism, and the way she made me feel heard.

I would give her 10 stars if I could. I’ve learned so much, I leave therapy feeling encouraged. She makes me feel heard and helps me sort through my feelings. I look forward to our sessions together.
