Virginia Kilgore
I’m Virginia Kilgore, a licensed professional counselor with over 20 years of experience supporting individuals through trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and significant life transitions. I provide a compassionate, patient-centered approach that emphasizes safety, collaboration, and empowerment. I’ve worked in outpatient, inpatient, telehealth, and medication-assisted treatment settings, and I’m especially passionate about helping women in midlife rediscover their strengths and purpose. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported as you navigate meaningful change.
First session
In our first session, we’ll take time to build rapport and discuss what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask about your goals, current challenges, and history at your own pace—there’s no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable. Together, we’ll start to create a collaborative plan that supports your needs and aligns with your values. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, respected, and supported.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths as a provider is my ability to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe, valued, and supported. I bring over 20 years of clinical experience and a deep understanding of how trauma, life changes, and emotional pain can impact every aspect of a person’s life. I’m skilled at helping clients uncover their strengths, challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, and build coping skills that foster lasting growth. My approach is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and a strong belief in each person’s capacity to heal and thrive.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with individuals who are navigating life transitions, healing from trauma, or managing anxiety and depression. My ideal clients are open to self-reflection and committed to making meaningful changes in their lives. I especially enjoy supporting women in midlife who are seeking clarity, empowerment, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Treatment methods
Trauma-Informed Care
I use a trauma-informed approach to create a safe, respectful, and empowering environment for my clients. With over 20 years of experience, I understand how trauma can impact a person’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I work collaboratively with clients to recognize their strengths, build resilience, and move toward healing—always honoring their pace, experiences, and autonomy. I incorporate grounding techniques, psychoeducation, and mindfulness strategies to support clients as they navigate their personal journeys.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that contribute to emotional distress and behavioral patterns. Together, we explore how thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected, and I provide practical tools to support positive change. CBT is especially effective for addressing anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, and I tailor interventions to meet each client’s unique needs and goals.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients build psychological flexibility by learning to accept difficult thoughts and emotions rather than avoid them. Through mindfulness, values exploration, and committed action, I support clients in developing a greater sense of purpose and resilience. ACT is especially helpful for individuals facing anxiety, depression, life transitions, and trauma, as it encourages living a meaningful life even in the presence of emotional pain.
