I currently work at ACCEPT Education Collaborative, where I am a school adjustment counselor. At ACCEPT I work with students who are on the autism spectrum and have extreme behavioral/emotional needs. Prior to working at ACCEPT, I worked for Arbour Counseling and at Norfolk State Prison.
First session
The first session is for me to get to know the client and to build rapport with them. It is discovering who they are and learning their needs. It is a time for the client and I to work as a team to come up with a plan for them. It is important for clients to get what they want out of therapy.
Strengths
I believe my greatest strength is making clients feel safe and validated during therapy.
Ideal clients
I am best positioned to serve clients who struggle with OCD, anxiety, ASD, and phobias.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have been using CBT with clients for 4 years. The goal of CBT is to positively change the way a person thinks, behaves, and feels.
Supportive
I use supportive therapy whenever I practice. Having my clients feel like therapy is a safe and validating experience for them is always the most important to me.
