Hi! I'm Megan and reaching out for help is the first step to addressing your struggles. Connecting with a therapist to navigate the issues you are dealing with can help you feel more connected to the people you love, more invested in your work, and all around improve your outlook. I specialize grief and loss, anxiety, and issues of self-esteem and self-worth. Together we can work to find ways to build healthy coping skills to manage overwhelming thoughts, persistent struggles with social interactions and rebuild connections with yourself and the people you love. Grief touches all of our lives, from losing a job, beloved animal companion or relationship and the process can feel very lonely. I am here to walk with you as you move through the process. I can help you learn more about yourself and build ways to feel more connected, purposeful, and happy. I also have experience in career counseling, domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as working with children.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session we will explore what has brought you to counseling and identifying the skills you are already using to help cope. I use a holistic counseling approach with common sense cognitive behavioral interventions. We will work together to combat negative thinking styles with a kindness approach that focuses on your strengths and helps you build a stronger self-image. Challenging your inner dialogue and learning ways to be more honest and open with yourself is part of my counseling approach. I don't require homework but may offer suggestions of interventions to try between sessions.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I primarily adapt a focus in cognitive behavioral therapy with influences from mindfulness, positive psychology and skills-based therapy. We will work together to understand how your feelings can be impacted by your thoughts and actions, and work to create new patterns of thinking that help you connect to your goals and wishes. I believe that non-judgment is essential in counseling, and I will work with you to create a loving relationship with yourself where you can see you struggles not as character flaws, but as opportunities to grow and change. Through this, you will connect to yourself and others with a deeper level of empathy and compassion. I am also trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy which can provide immediate relief for anxiety stemming from trauma.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I specialized in grief and loss as well as anxiety. Many times, people feel that their natural process of grief is considered socially unacceptable which increases their feelings of loneliness and desperation. My goal is to help you navigate this process while also connecting to what we need to adapt. With compassion, we will explore your loss and help you reconnect to the goals, people and dreams that have been waylaid by the grief process.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I enjoy working with clients who are seeking to better understand how their thoughts impact their feelings. I am willing to work at your pace, and clients often say they feel accomplished after our sessions. We will take note of your success and find ways to build on the skills you are learning to help you reach your potential. I work well with pre-teens all the way through seniors and am comfortable working with both men and women. I strive to create an environment that is safe and inclusive for each person and am LGBTQIA-friendly. I look forward to talking to you and beginning the process of helping you achieve your goals!
