Hello! I'm a Christian Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Illinois. I received my Master's from Capella University in Minnesota and have practiced in Illinois for 14 years. Previously, I was a licensed and ordained youth pastor for almost 24 years. I love to help couples, parents, and their children navigate through challenging life and relational issues toward restoration and health.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions and then dive into the specific challenges you are facing. This will help me design a tailored plan for us to work through and direction for follow-up sessions if needed.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have worked with individuals, couples, and families with various needs from a Biblical perspective and best practices. I believe we are so much more than the challenges we face and I enjoy helping others grow toward restoration and peace. Much of my experience has been in helping restore broken or damaged relationships and helping you develop practical skills to be your best.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with people of faith who desire to become their best and give their best. I provide pre-marital counseling, marital counseling, family counseling, individual counseling, and Child and Family Counseling to cultivate healthy relationships and interactions.

Through much prayer I was brought to Ken Summers and although this is my first session it was great! I learned a lot and felt his honesty and ways he overcame similar situations can help me in my life. He has a sense of humor and wisdom that can help me grow as a husband and a man and I look forward to future sessions. Yet the best thing is he puts God front and center and points me back to God as my ultimate healer.

My treatment methods

Christian Counseling

I have been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) for the past 12 + years and a full-time therapist for over 14. Prior to my career as a professional Marriage and Family Counselor, I was an ordained and licensed pastor for nearly 24 years. My approach comes from a Biblical perspective knowing that the Lord desires to bring restoration and peace to your life.

Couples Counseling

Couples Counseling is often utilized when a couple's relationship has been strained and often misunderstood. Couples long to restore their relationship to the healthy and vibrant relationship they once had or even better.

Attachment-based

I have 14 years of working with clients who have experienced early developmental trauma. Helping children and adults cultivate and work toward a healthier attachment and relationship. I am a Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Practitioner and have helped train 100s of parents and professionals to use TBRI. In addition, I utilize Theraplay when the insecure attachment is between the parent and child to cultivate healthier interactions. I frequently use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help adults address some of their own trauma that often hinders their ability to cultivate the healthy relationships they desire.

Family Therapy

I believe that though many individuals experience various mental health challenges, the family system can play a vital role in restoring health to individuals through the family. Understanding the needs of each individual and how our history can impact our beliefs and our actions can help facilitate greater health. Relational trauma can only be restored to health through relationships.

Relational

I am very relational and value each person's strengths and perspectives. You will always be more important than the problem and will be my primary focus to help you become the best you!
