Andrew Kohl

LPC (he/him)3 years of experience

I am a warm, grounded, and straightforward therapist who helps individuals, couples, and families understand the patterns keeping them stuck. My ideal clients are people who care deeply about their relationships but feel overwhelmed by conflict, disconnection, anxiety, or painful experiences from the past. I balance compassion with honest feedback, creating a space where you can feel safe and understood while still being challenged to grow. My approach draws from Gottman Method Couples Therapy, EFT, EMDR, CBT, and ERP, allowing therapy to be tailored to your needs rather than forcing you into a one-size-fits-all process. I understand that life and relationships can be messy, and I bring patience, curiosity, practicality, and genuine humanity into the room.

First session

In our first session, we'll focus on getting to know each other and understanding what brought you to therapy. I'll ask questions about your concerns, your background, and what you hope to achieve. Together, we'll identify goals for treatment and create a plan that feels right for you. My goal is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and understood from the very beginning.

Strengths

My approach to therapy is influenced by both my personal and professional experiences. Like many people, I've experienced challenges that have shaped my perspective and deepened my appreciation for how difficult change can be. Those experiences help me connect with clients in a genuine, compassionate way while maintaining hope that growth is possible. In session, I strive to create a warm, supportive environment where clients feel safe being honest. At the same time, I'm not a therapist who simply sits back and listens. I believe meaningful change often requires gentle honesty and thoughtful challenge. I'll validate your experiences while also helping you identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck. My goal is to support you while encouraging growth, always at a pace that feels respectful and collaborative.

Ideal clients

I work best with individuals and couples who are motivated to better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and create meaningful, lasting change. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, trauma, life transitions, or challenges with communication and emotional connection. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected, you don't have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. My ideal clients are open to self-reflection and willing to actively engage in the therapeutic process. I believe therapy is most effective when we work collaboratively, combining practical strategies with deeper exploration to help you gain insight, build new skills, and move toward the life and relationships you want.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT helps identify the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In my practice, I help clients recognize unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and build practical skills to manage anxiety, depression, stress, and everyday challenges.

Gottman method

The Gottman Method is a research-based approach that strengthens friendship, improves communication, and helps couples navigate conflict more effectively. In my practice, I use structured interventions and practical tools to help partners rebuild trust, deepen emotional connection, and create healthier relationship patterns.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

EFT helps individuals and couples understand the emotions and attachment needs that drive patterns of conflict and disconnection. I use this approach to help clients create emotional safety, improve communication, and build stronger, more secure relationships.

EMDR

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process distressing memories and experiences that continue to impact the present. I use EMDR to help clients reduce the emotional intensity of past events, strengthen positive beliefs about themselves, and move forward with greater confidence and resilience.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

ERP is the gold-standard treatment for OCD and many anxiety disorders. I guide clients through gradual, supported exposure to feared situations while helping them resist compulsive behaviors, allowing anxiety to decrease naturally and confidence to grow over time.
