Tahrea Flemming Mensah
Wherever you are in your journey, I am here to support you. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I serve adults navigating life's challenges. Whether you are facing a difficult transition, processing grief or trauma, managing relationship concerns, or coping with symptoms of anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges, I strive to create an environment where you feel respected, understood, and empowered.
Support Through Life’s Challenges
Over the past 13 years, I have enjoyed working in a variety of settings including psychiatric rehabilitation, education, career development, and psychotherapy, and earned my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
First session
Our first session is a chance for us to connect and begin building a strong foundation for our work together. I will take time to learn about your story, your strengths and current challenges, and what you hope to gain from therapy. You can expect a welcoming, supportive conversation where there is no pressure to have all the answers. My goal is for you to leave feeling encouraged and hopeful, with a clearer sense of how therapy can support your growth, healing, and overall well-being.
Strengths
I bring compassion, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to understanding each person’s unique experiences. I meet clients where they are, creating a nonjudgmental space where they can feel heard, accepted, and comfortable being themselves. I believe everyone has strengths they can build upon, even during difficult seasons of life. My approach combines thoughtful conversation, encouragement, and practical activities tailored to each client’s needs. I value collaboration and celebrate progress along the way, helping clients build self-awareness, recognize their capabilities, and feel more confident navigating life’s challenges.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship concerns, past trauma, or major life transitions. Many are seeking greater self-awareness, improved self-esteem, or support in understanding patterns that affect their lives and relationships. My ideal clients are willing to reflect on their experiences, consider new perspectives, and gradually put what they learn in therapy into practice outside of sessions. You don’t have to have all the answers or feel ready to tackle everything at once. A willingness to explore, learn, and grow at your own pace is a meaningful place to start.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you better understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we’ll explore patterns that may be contributing to your challenges and develop practical strategies to manage difficult emotions, navigate stress, and respond to situations in healthier ways. My approach is collaborative and tailored to your needs, helping you build self-awareness, confidence, and skills you can use in everyday life.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing to help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and readiness for change without feeling pressured or judged. Together, we’ll identify what matters most to you, explore any mixed feelings or obstacles, and build on your strengths to help you move toward goals that feel meaningful and achievable. You are the expert on your own life, and I’m here to support you along the way.
Trauma-Informed Care
I use a trauma-informed approach that recognizes how past experiences can shape the way you think, feel, and relate to others. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, respected, and in control of your healing journey. We’ll work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, building on your strengths and focusing on your needs, choices, and goals.
Supportive
I offer supportive therapy to help you work through life’s challenges with greater clarity and confidence. Together, we’ll explore your concerns, recognize your strengths, and develop ways to cope with stress and navigate difficult situations. My goal is to help you feel supported, build confidence in yourself, and move forward at a pace that feels right for you.
Faith-based therapy
As a Christian therapist, I can incorporate faith and spiritual principles into our work if that is important to you. We can explore how your beliefs, values, and relationship with God may support you through life’s challenges and personal growth. My goal is to honor your faith while providing compassionate, nonjudgmental support tailored to your needs and goals.
