Hi, I'm Amanda, a Licensed Professional Counselor and the founder of Matrescence and Mind Therapy. Before becoming a therapist, I spent over 10 years as an educator, giving me a deep appreciation for the emotional, developmental, and relational challenges that children, teens, and families experience. As a mom myself for nearly a decade, I also understand the profound ways that parenthood can reshape identity, relationships, and mental health. My goal is to provide a compassionate, collaborative space where clients feel genuinely seen, understood, and supported. Whether you're navigating anxiety, trauma, motherhood, life transitions, or the pressures of everyday life, I am committed to helping you build practical skills, deepen self-awareness, and move toward lasting healing and meaningful change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a strong therapeutic relationship. We'll spend time discussing what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, relevant life experiences, and what you hope to achieve through counseling. I'll also ask questions about your emotional, medical, family, and relationship history so I can better understand the whole picture. My approach is collaborative and paced according to your comfort level—you don't have to share everything all at once. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, heard, and understood. Together, we'll identify your goals for therapy and begin developing a personalized treatment plan that supports your unique needs and strengths. You can expect a balance of compassionate listening, thoughtful questions, and practical strategies that help you begin moving toward meaningful, lasting change.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring a balance of compassion, authenticity, and evidence-based care to every session. Clients often tell me they feel comfortable opening up because I create a warm, nonjudgmental environment while also providing practical tools and meaningful feedback that foster growth. I believe therapy should feel both validating and productive. My background as an educator for more than 10 years allows me to explain concepts in a way that is approachable and easy to apply in everyday life. I also draw from my experience as a mother to better understand the complexities of parenting, matrescence, and the many transitions families face, while recognizing that every person's journey is unique. I integrate approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, and person-centered therapy to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Rather than focusing only on symptom relief, I work collaboratively with clients to identify underlying patterns, build resilience, strengthen self-compassion, and create lasting, meaningful change. My goal is for clients to leave each session with both greater insight and practical strategies they can use between appointments.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I specialize in working with adolescents, adults, and mothers navigating seasons of change, overwhelm, and healing. I am especially passionate about supporting women during pregnancy, postpartum, and throughout the matrescence journey as they adjust to the emotional, relational, and identity shifts that come with motherhood. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, people-pleasing, life transitions, trauma, self-worth, or relationship challenges. They often find themselves feeling stuck in patterns of overthinking, emotional exhaustion, or carrying the weight of expectations from others. Together, we work to understand how past experiences influence present-day thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing practical tools for lasting change. My ideal clients are motivated to better understand themselves, even if they don't yet know where to begin. They value a compassionate, collaborative therapeutic relationship where they can feel heard without judgment while also being gently challenged to grow. Whether you're processing childhood experiences, navigating parenthood, strengthening boundaries, improving relationships, or learning to manage anxiety more effectively, I strive to create a space where healing feels both supported and empowering. My approach integrates evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused CBT, with a deep understanding of the emotional and developmental transitions that shape our lives. Therapy with me is focused on helping clients build resilience, increase self-awareness, develop healthier coping strategies, and move toward a life that aligns with their values rather than fear or self-doubt.

My treatment methods

Trauma-Focused CBT

I utilize Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) as one of several evidence-based approaches to help clients understand the connection between their experiences, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Trauma can influence the way we view ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us, often long after the traumatic experience has ended. Through a trauma-informed and compassionate approach, I help clients identify the ways past experiences may be impacting their present-day functioning while building practical skills to reduce distress, improve emotional regulation, and develop healthier patterns of thinking. Together, we work to challenge unhelpful beliefs that developed as a result of trauma, strengthen coping strategies, and process difficult experiences at a pace that feels safe and appropriate for each individual. Whether you are navigating childhood trauma, relationship wounds, anxiety, life transitions, pregnancy, postpartum challenges, or experiences that have shaped your sense of self, therapy is tailored to your unique needs and goals. Healing is not about forgetting what happened—it is about reducing the hold those experiences have on your life so you can move forward with greater confidence, resilience, and self-compassion. My goal is to provide a supportive, collaborative environment where you feel empowered to process your experiences, reconnect with your strengths, and create meaningful, lasting change.
