Welcome, I am Chevonne Toney and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in practice for over 24 years. I have worked in a variety of different settings and helped a lot of people with their emotional health, mental illness and addressing their trauma. My approach to therapy is very client centered and I am trained in a variety of different approaches. I have a vast history of working with clients with ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Anxiety and Trauma in their backgrounds. I provide therapeutic services as well as education to assist clients with better understanding themselves, their condition and in some cases provided life coaching. My goal for my clients is to assist in healing from their symptoms/trauma and move forward to build a better life for themselves.
Because clients are provided intake forms to complete prior to the initial session, I have some information about what brings them to therapy. I like to review their scores on the GAD-7 and PHQ-9 so they are aware of what the scores mean. I then ask general questions to get to know who they are as a person and to allow them to get to know me so they are comfortable with the process and then we proceed from there.
I provide brief interventions, short term therapy utilizing EMDR, mindfulness and a variety of modalities in client-centered treatment. When working with a client I take into account their spiritual beliefs, culture and ethnicity. I encourage clients to make short term goals or long-term goals because if you can plan for a future, you are more likely to work towards that desired future.
My biggest strength is my ability to make clients feel comfortable talking about uncomfortable situations. When people come to me, sometimes they are skeptical about therapy and what to expect or have been with other therapists and didn't see the benefit. I have been told that I make people feel comfortable with the process, validated in their feelings and optimistic about future. My greatest joy is when a client says, "Ms Chevonne I feel so much better about myself, I am ready to....." often the sentence is finished with go back to school, find employment, forgive myself, forgive those who have hurt me in the past ect.
