Hello! My name is Jonathan Piña, and I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Texas. I am newly licensed but have experience working with patients experiencing anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, and other debilitating mental illnesses. Currently, I provide therapy in a hospital setting where I assist adolescents, adults, and the elderly who struggle with various mental illnesses. I help my clients become resilient, restore their self esteem, become more confident, and empower them with the skills and courage they need to overcome whatever challenge may arise.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing, or areas in which you would like to improve. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions. Each session may vary; however, first sessions usually include introductions and identifying the presenting problem. We'll take it at your pace thereafter!

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a clinician and a social worker, I genuinely care about my clients well-being and their quality of life. I believe in creating a genuine and safe environment which empowers my clients to express themselves freely and without judgement. Moreover, my experience as a social worker enables me to look beyond what is shown or said to assist my clients in identifying other problem areas that may have been overlooked or underestimated. Tell me what you want to work on and we will create an awesome plan that is tailored to your specific situation!

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with adolescents and adults who are ready to go on to the next chapter in their lives. Sometimes this big move can feel overwhelming and impossible. The reality is that we have already overcome many challenges in our lives with the skills we learned from past experiences, we just need some help using those skills to solve new problems.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a treatment approach used by mental health professionals to help clients challenge unhelpful or negative thoughts and learn effective coping skills. The client will eventually feel comfortable and confident managing current symptoms and future ones as well.

Christian Counseling

I have used Christ-centered theology in my personal life to manage and overcome stressful events. In a similar way, I will use this method to integrate Christian understanding into everyday life to better equip the client to manage and overcome stressful events.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I currently use DBT in a mental health, in-patient setting to teach my patients how to identify and regulate their emotions appropriately. Additionally, my patients learn to be mindful, they build distress tolerance, and set healthy boundaries.
