Hi there! I’m Ruth. Do you ever feel like you are being pushed and pulled on the current of life, struggling to make it all work? You deserve to live a life that makes you feel excited to face every day - and this can often feel tough. I believe that one of the bravest things you can do is to begin to understand your own story, to see where you have been, as you find new ways to move forward in your life. I have been licensed as a mental health professional for over 30 years, working in various settings. These years of experience have nurtured rich relationships, in which wisdom between my clients and myself was often shared together. I am passionate about helping with various issues - Anxiety, Depression, Grief/Loss, Relationships, Living with Chronic Illness and Adjustment to Life Transitions. Seeking therapy can be scary, but YOU are worth it! If you want to share your life story with me, let’s be in touch and work together!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I believe in the organic process of therapy, that is meeting you where you are with the issues YOU bring. In the first session, we will begin by discussing your goals for treatment and how therapy works. We will start with the issues which are foremost on your mind and work from there. The time in treatment is about you, not me - so I will not have an agenda. I may remind you about something you said in a previous session and ask you about it, but I will always take my cue from where you are at a given session, as you will set the direction of the therapeutic work.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Although I work with a variety of issues as noted above, it is the overall adjustment to the transitions of the various stages of life, which holds special interest for me, as these transitions can often throw us off balance, creating issues in our relationships or cause us anxiety, depression, etc. Transitions at many stages of life can be so challenging - it can help to have someone to work with to navigate through these rough waters. I am glad to be that guide for you!

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with adults of all ages - young adults beginning their professional lives and facing new challenges, as well as those who must balance careers and families. I have a particular joy in working with the unique needs of older adults, as they move through their life transitions and search for new meaning in their daily existence, finding their purpose for a richer, fuller life.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

Over many years of practice, I have learned to meet the client where they are and use an organic approach to treatment, utilizing various approaches as indicated by the direction therapy takes, including supportive counseling, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), ACT (Acceptance Commitment Therapy), reframing, and Narrative Therapy, among others.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness can often be an important adjunct to treatment, as it can help the client to make important connections to be present for their healing. Relaxation, meditation, breathing exercises, are just some of the expressions of Mindful therapeutic work. Another aspect of Mindfulness I like to explore is dreamwork, which can reveal another layer of insight into a deeper connection with yourself.

Compassion Focused

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is often a vital approach to help clients engage in self-compassion and more patience with themselves, as they move forward with the process of self-discovery. As they find more empathy for themselves, they often find they can have more empathy with others. Clients may also discover they can release the guilt and self-blame they have been carrying, which has been preventing them from moving forward.
