At your first visit, which is an initial psychiatric evaluation, a comprehensive assessment will be conducted by a mental health professional, often a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner, to gather information about your mental health, medical history, and current concerns.

I also utilize the supportive treatment method in my practice to foster empathy, active listening, and a non-judgmental attitude.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Determine the client's preferences for change and incorporate these into the treatment plan. Ensure that interventions align with the client's values and goals.

Motivational Interviewing

Enhance the client's belief in their ability to make positive changes. Encourage them to identify and verbalize their own strengths and abilities. Collaboratively develop a change plan with the client. Identify specific, achievable goals and steps for change. Continuously assess the client's motivation and progress. Be flexible and adapt your approach based on the client's responses.

Psychoeducation

Provide clear and accurate information about the client's diagnosis. Explain the nature of the mental health condition, its symptoms, and the potential course of the disorder. Educate the client about available treatment options, including medications, therapy modalities, and alternative approaches. Discuss the benefits, risks, and potential side effects of different treatments. If applicable, provide education about prescribed medications. Discuss the purpose of medications, proper dosage, potential side effects, and the importance of adherence. Teach practical coping skills for managing stress, anxiety, and other symptoms. Focus on building resilience and enhancing the client's ability to cope with challenges.
