I am a therapist who also has ADHD. I enjoy working with adults who live with symptoms consistent with ADHD/ADD and who also suffer from emotional distress such as depression, anxiety, hoarding, grief/loss, self esteem issues, life transitions and/or trauma. I especially enjoy working those who have been recently diagnosed. My approach includes both therapeutic and coaching interventions. When working with me, you can expect to gain a understanding of who you are, what makes you tick, what doesn't and how to move toward the life that you want.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During the first session, we will simply get to know each other. I will go over initial paperwork, ask you questions about your reason for seeking therapy and about your background and family. If there is time we will discuss treatment options, goals and develop a treatment plan. There may be homework but nothing to intensive during this time.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths as a provider are my experience, my approach (laid back but challenging when needed), my non-judgemental attitude and the fact that I LOVE the work that I do and the population that I serve. Every single client I have worked with has been some combination of brilliant, quirky and/or creative. I LOVE the ADHD peeps:)

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best able to serve adults who experience symptoms consistent with ADHD. Some of my clients only have ADHD. Most experience ADHD as well as other issues, such as hoarding, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and life transitions.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have over 10 years training and experience implementing CBT into my practice. CBT will be used to help clients take a close look at their thoughts and emotions. Clients will come to understand how thoughts and emotions affect behavior. Additionally, clients will "unlearn" negative thoughts and behaviors and ultimately adopt healthier thinking patterns and habits.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I have been using ACT in my practice for at least the last 5 years. ACT is a type of mindful psychotherapy that helps clients stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without judgment. ACT will be used to help clients move forward and through difficult emotions in order to allow more of their energy to be used for healing instead of dwelling on the negative. With ACT, clients will be taught various coping mechanisms specifically designed for designed for their particular situation. These tools can then be used to handle challenging situations througout their every day lives.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have used DBT informed interventions in my practice for about the last 5 years. DBT will be used to help clients who experience emotions very intensely. It clients understand how thoughts affect emotions and behaviors. It is especially effective with people who have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder but can be used for anyone who has difficulty managing intense emotions. DBT helps clients to accept the reality of their lives and their behaviors, to function better in interpersonal relationships and to change their lives overall.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I have used Mindfulness in my for about 5 years or more. Mindfulness is combined with other therapies to incorporate the stillness often needed to recognize, acknowledge and change disruptive negative thoughts. Mindfulness encourages an attitude of non-judgmental awareness.
