I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia with over 15 years of experience working in counseling, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution. I have worked with various populations, targeting issues related to depression, anxiety, mood instability, ADHD, and grief. In addition to helping through life transitions while addressing relationship, parenting or military issues. I use a collaborative approach to help reach success.
We will work together to develop a treatment plan that is personalized to you. We will discuss challenges preventing you from reaching those goals and then address them collaboratively to help you reach success.
Having the length of experience working with children and adolescence in different capacities, I have the ability to build trusting relationships and help them open up about their thoughts and feelings.
While I have experience working with the adult population, I specialize in working with children and adolescence. My clients are openly willing to address their weakness and limitations in the home, school and community environments; and develop coping strategies to improve their symptoms and overall daily lives.

Shaqwena is great. We have been working together for several weeks now and I am enjoying her approach. She is good at holding me accountable and also at the same time encouraging me to have grace for myself. In the past, with other therapy providers, I just talked the whole time, but Shaqwena asks questions, reviews my goals, and follows up on what I said I will do. That is a stretch for me, but in this stage of my recovery it is an area where I can grow and it will help me get better.
