Sara Rayes
Hello! My name is Sara Rayes and I am a licensed master of social work. I have been working with children, teens and adults since 2018. I have practiced mental healthcare at several levels (community mental health, partial hospitalization and private practice) in order to diversify my skills. My goal is to provide equitable support to those looking to start working on themselves.
First session
Our first session will include a brief review of administrative information (scheduling, fees, paperwork). We will discuss your history with therapy, your expectations and goals. You will be welcome to ask questions and see if I'm the right fit for you.
Strengths
I work for you! We will take this at your pace and if things come up that you're not ready for, we will wait until you are. I know that people had have negative therapy experiences with other professionals, you are safe with me.
Ideal clients
I am able to work with teens and adults who are trying therapy for the first time or returning individuals. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, OCD, PTSD, trauma, personality disorders, self-harm, suicidal ideation, disordered eating and self-esteem issues.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Formally trained in applying Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to address depression, anxiety and self-esteem challenges. I will provide the education to start using these skills yourself and help you work through opportunities to challenge negative thinking.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I began incorporating DBT methods when CBT wasn't enough for some clients. Sometimes we are too dysregulated to apply CBT (or CBT isn't for you!) and that's where DBT comes in. We can work together to build a solid foundation of coping skills to get into the deeper therapeutic work.
Somatic
These body-based techniques will help you build a bridge between body and mind. Knowing how to regulate your nervous system can be a game changer. I have been incorporating somatic techniques in my practice for the last 3 years.
Strength-Based
A strengths-based approach is what being a social worker is all about. I will always seek to highlight your strengths as a person. Unconditional positive regard is a hallmark of my practice.
Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)
ERP helps us target OCD symptoms in a structured and safe way. We will build a plan and make sure you have the de-escalation skills before starting the exposure process. This can also be applied to social anxiety triggers as well.
