Hello, my name is Angela Bross. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with many years of experience. I started out in 2010 working at a mental health agency before working for the military providing counseling on various military and NATO bases. After returning from Europe I have been working at a college providing counseling and support to the student population. Congratulations on taking one of the bravest steps you will ever make in life. Working on mental health issues regardless of what symptoms you are facing is frightening. My goal is to help reduce and eliminate those fears in order for a more peaceful and fulfilling life. We all face depression and anxiety at times in our lives. It is so important to have support to assist in navigating through those times, whether they are situational or clinical. I am here to be that support and guide. I provide a safe, comfortable, empathetic and nonjudgmental environment for you as a client.
The first session will consist of introductions followed by an explanation of confidentiality to ensure a safe and comfortable environment we will also explore strengths and weaknesses. What does the client want to get out of the therapeutic process? We will discuss issues and challenges that are causing difficulties in life.
With my years of experience working with all ages, my ability as an active listener has provided great strength in being able to ascertain the challenges and roadblocks that clients run up against in order to develop new skills and move forward in their lives. Being able to create a comfortable, safe and healthy working relationship with clients I feel is a great strength that is so important for the therapeutic process.
While I don't often work with young children, I enjoy working with all ages. My experiences have been with clients from ages 18 through 98. I particularly enjoyed working closely with clients that want to put it the time and effort into improving. Most people want to be happy in life that don't have the tools needed to get there, often feeling stuck, overwhelmed or the symptoms of depression and anxiety simply shut them down. My goal is to help provide those tools and knowledge to assist getting them where they want to be.
I have used CBT in my career for many years in order to change the way clients think, decreasing their negative thought process and behaviors. It has been extremely effective when encountering such problems as depression, anxiety disorders, substance use, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness.
In dealing with personality disorders I have used dialectical behavior therapy in order to help clients increase their emotional and cognitive regulation by learning about the triggers that lead to reactive states and by helping to assess which coping skills to apply in the sequence of events, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to help avoid undesired reactions.
