Counseling in a safe space to identify and explore the things that keep you stuck, or prevent you from living the life you want to lead. A safe non-judgmental environment will allow you to find or enhance motivation for change and identify choices that may have been overlooked or seen as not being possible in the past. Many people entering therapy are overwhelmed or find themselves at a crossroads in life when they need to adapt to new circumstances or adjust to uncomfortable changes in employment, relationships, or loss. I am an LCSW with experience in Outpatient counseling, grief, and loss, drug and alcohol use, and have worked with unaccompanied minors from Central America. Therapeutic approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Expressive Art Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.

First session

My job in the first session is to get a picture of where the the client is and where they would like to be. I hope o have an understanding of what type of work we will be doing in therapy. It is not unusual for clients to have difficulty seeing where they want to go with therapy. Hopefully this is a task that I can partner with the client to uncover and modify as the work progresses. At the end of the first session I hope that the client feels heard and there is enough of a sesne of safety to continue the therapeutic journey.

Strengths

I have had experience in various outpatient counseling settings and most recently worked as a bereavement counselor for a hospital. My training has been in expressive art therapy, grief and loss, and trauma. I consider myself creative and feel I can provide novel approaches to solving problems and identifying options.

Ideal clients

I work with adults ages 24 and up with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss. Many of my clients have ADHD and have had past trauma even if that is not the reason they are seeking therapy. I do not expect clients to have clear goals at the outset. Ideally my clients come with an openness to try new approaches to getting what they need in life.
