LPCC, 24 years of experience
Hello, I'm Charles. With 24 years of professional experience, I am dedicated to helping clients navigate stress, anxiety, family conflicts, trauma, and depression. My approach is rooted in the belief that you are the expert of your own story, and together, we can harness your strengths to overcome the challenges you face. I am here to support and empower you every step of the way. I hold a Master of Arts in Community Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, both from Kent State University. As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, I have specialized training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. My extensive background includes working with individuals, families, and groups, addressing a wide range of mental health issues such as PTSD, addiction, ADHD, and more. In my private practice, I focus on online individual and couples therapy, emphasizing stress management, emotional regulation, and trauma resolution. My previous role as a Residential Therapist at OhioGuidestone allowed me to provide comprehensive care for children and adolescents with severe emotional problems, develop treatment plans, and offer clinical supervision. Throughout my career, I have been recognized for my contributions to the field, receiving the Clinical Service Award in 2004 and multiple inductions into various Sports Halls of Fame. These accolades reflect my commitment to excellence and my passion for helping others. Outside of my professional life, I value open-mindedness and creativity, which I bring into my therapeutic practice. I believe in developing and communicating personalized plans for your growth and development, ensuring that our work together is both effective and timely. If you're ready to take the first step towards positive change, I invite you to reach out. Let's work together to create a path towards a more fulfilling and happier life.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief greetings, then clarify the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions. I treat you as the expert on your concerns, mindfully attend to your expressions, and collaboratively work with you to find solutions suitable to your needs and wants.
I use patience to promote trust and psychological and emotional safety so that the client feels inclined to share concerns and feelings connected. I use love of learning to share scientifically based interventions backed by research to help clients bring about beneficial change. And I use wisdom to help clients to better understand their concerns and the role they may play in contributing to the concerns.
I am very intentional in helping individuals to regulate their mood, improve themselves, explore their past, process their emotions, and manage/resolve conflicts. I am incredibly honored that you chose me to help you with this journey and am highly committed to uncovering the results you are looking for. I invite you to indicate the days and times you prefer to meet for sessions.

He's been really helping me cope with depression & anxiety, as well as giving me tools to become more successful at managing my emotions. Charles also asks good questions that make me rethink how I feel about certain areas or topics, as I bring them up.

I would say it went good. It was just the first preliminary appointment so it was just like why we’re here and a bunch of questions so I don’t really have any feedback as of yet. Maybe ask this after a few sessions when we start to get to know each other.
I instruct clients to visualize their emotions, thoughts, and feelings from afar to gain perspective to reduce the power of the emotions, thoughts, and feelings. I teach clients how to use mindful meditation to notice distracting thoughts and obligations without judgment. I educate clients on how to imagine placing a distracting thought upon a leaf and visualize watching it float down a stream until it disappears.
I assist clients to take responsibility for their feelings to help improve their communication when they feel upset or angry. I help clients to practice using "I" statements to allow them to communicate what is upsetting while minimizing blaming. In addition, I aid clients in recognizing their body language tones of vice and facial expressions while using “I” statements to lessen the chances of their partner becoming defensive.
I instruct clients on how to increase their responsiveness to the thoughts, feelings, and experiences that come and go quickly, oftentimes outside of their awareness. I help clients to gain increased understanding of what they say or do, and its connection with how they feel and the events/people that influenced them. I educate clients how to self-sooth by using their senses to help manage their emotions thoughts and/or feelings.
I educate clients about common reactions to trauma that includes re-experiencing the trauma through thoughts, feelings, and memories of fear, anger, or sadness. I help clients to recognize how they avoid trauma reminders by using drugs or alcohol to suppress uncomfortable thoughts and emotions related to their traumatic experiences. I educate clients about how physiological symptoms such as becoming irritable, quick to anger, or aggressive are typical signs experienced when faced with trauma reminders.
