We all need space to prioritize our thoughts and feelings, to say what we need to say out loud, to someone who will not judge us for how we think and feel. Oftentimes, we cannot expect the people in our lives to be impartial or unbiased. Sometimes the people in our lives are far too involved in what causes us to need this space, to process our trauma, and they might not realize why we are anxious or depressed. In the therapeutic relationship, it is all about what you want and need. I will listen and ask thoughtful questions and help you recognize patterns and make connections. Life is a journey and I want you to welcome self-exploration, not fear it.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

As a teaching artist and art therapist, I believe in creativity and artmaking as a means of self-discovery and a therapeutic healing process. My integrative and humanistic counseling approach utilizes evidenced based practices as well as tenets and exercises derived from mindfulness.

Clients I have worked with often express feeling safe and at ease talking with me. The therapeutic relationship is based on direct communication, trust and openness. Individuals have often expressed feeling comfortable opening up to me and have described me as warm, friendly, approachable, smart and reliable.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) addresses negative thought patterns and behaviors to improve emotional well-being and coping skills. We will identify thought patterns and beliefs that are not helpful and no longer suiting you, challenge them, and replace them with a more flexible and neutral view.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

CPT is an evidence based practice used for the treatment of PTSD. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) views PTSD as a result of disruptions in the natural recovery process after trauma, often caused by distorted beliefs about the event. These distorted beliefs can lead to strong emotions and avoidance, hindering progress. CPT helps by identifying and challenging these harmful thoughts, leading to clearer thinking and emotional healing.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

You are the expert on you. Person-Centered Therapy, developed by Carl Rogers, emphasizes creating a supportive and empathetic environment where individuals can explore their feelings and self-perceptions. It focuses on the client’s capacity for self-directed growth and healing through unconditional positive regard, empathy, and congruence.

Attachment-based

Attachment-Based Therapy focuses on improving the quality of interpersonal relationships by addressing and healing attachment issues stemming from early relationships. It aims to resolve difficulties in emotional regulation and relationship patterns by exploring how early attachment experiences influence current behavior and relationships.

Humanistic

Humanistic Therapy emphasizes personal growth and self-actualization by focusing on an individual's capacity for self-awareness and self-improvement. It values the subjective experience and innate potential for positive change, often using techniques that foster a genuine, empathetic therapeutic relationship.
