Welcome, I’m Megan! I applaud you for taking time to prioritize yourself. I am eager to learn about your journey thus far and work with you to achieve the life you hope to have. The desire for a better quality of life is wonderful to have and something you deserve. I strive to meet each client where they are at when they join sessions and approach conversations under a judgement-free lens. As a team, we can develop coping skills, enhance problem-solving abilities, and create a future more in line with your values. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I earned my graduate degree at Villanova University and my undergraduate degree at Saint Joseph’s University. I work with adults who experience relational struggles, life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, recovery maintenance, and mood disorders. I commonly integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing into my practice. In addition to looking at a person’s mental wellness, I also explore other aspects of wellness (e.g., social, physical, and environmental wellness) as this assists in treating the whole self. Beyond bringing my professional knowledge to sessions, I bring my personal experiences through self-disclosure when helpful. My overall therapeutic approach is genuine and empathetic, with a focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship. I thoughtfully weave together evidence-based practices with the hope that your treatment feels tailored to your needs. In my sessions, the therapist and client are both experts. I enjoy assisting people with discovering passions, highlighting strengths, heightening motivation, and achieving overall self acceptance. I want everyone to leave my sessions feeling they deserve to be seen, heard, loved, understood, accepted, and celebrated. Interested in being teammates working towards bettering your quality of life? Let’s connect!
During the early stages of therapy my hope is to create a strong therapeutic alliance with each person I work with and tend to this throughout treatment. We will work together as a team to best understand what has brought you to therapy, what strengths you already have that we can utilize, how the past impacts your present, what barriers exist (ex: socioeconomic barriers), and which coping skills are effective for you. My goal is for your sessions to feel individualized, genuine, and collaborative. I am open to feedback and welcome your input around what skills and conversations are helpful or unhelpful as well as what you’d like to see more or less of in your treatment.
I hold a deep appreciation for those who come to therapy to work on themselves and have the courage to share about their lives. I value the time a person takes to come to therapy and genuinely enjoy holding space to work through the challenging parts of life while also celebrating the wins in life. I am open to feedback and engage in ongoing professional as well as personal growth. I see each person as their own autonomous self and listen to every person's story with a non-judgemental lens. I pride myself on recalling not only the big details of your life but the small ones too. I want to learn and remember your dog's name, your comfort show, your significant other's name and more! My teamwork mentality means that you are a copilot in your own treatment. Together we will collaborate to incorporate your experiences, values, and goals into your sessions. My collaboration mentality will empower you to own your treatment.
My experience lies within providing support to the adult population. I have treated a wide variety of challenges, the most common ones being anxiety, depression, life transitions, relational struggles, dating, trauma, grief, recovery maintenance, and mood disorders.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) explores the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT helps identify patterns and beliefs a person may hold about themselves, others, and the world. Once thought patterns are understood, session time will be utilized to work towards reevaluating and challenging thoughts or beliefs that are not serving the person.
The concepts in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) are designed to assist people in learning how to live in the present moment, understand and regulate emotions, endure difficult situations, navigate conflict, and communicate more effectively with others. Through these learnings, the hope is that the person will build increased acceptance towards themselves and their current situations while also taking steps to implement skills learned to create change.
Every person has goals and aspirations in life. At times people find themselves stuck and not progressing towards their goals. Through collaborative conversation and respect for one's autonomy, the techniques of Motivational Interviewing will assist in understanding a person's hesitations around change as well as strengthening a person's own motivation for and commitment to taking action to achieve their goals.
