Hi, I’m Dee and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Art Therapist, and certified in Addictions. I have a person-centered approach, I do my best to meet you where you are and address what you want to address about your life. I’ll listen, ask questions and make observations, all in an effort to help you achieve your goals. I’ve spent the last five years working in addictions both inpatient and outpatient and through that have worked with people dealing with anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationship issues, legal involvement, low self-esteem, anger, grief and much more.
During our first session we'll get to know each other a little. You'll fill me in on why you're seeking therapy and what you would like to accomplish and I'll answer any questions you have about the process. This way I can get an idea of what you're looking for and you can get an idea of what future sessions might be like. We'll also go over any paperwork that's needed or you have questions about.
Me in a nut shell, this is my second career, I went back to school to become an therapist after life threw me some unexpected turns. I’m working to pay off my home and keep my pup in treats and toys. I like to read and binge watch tv, spend time with friends and family and go for walks with my pup. I like ice cream more than I should. I love to crochet and making things, sewing, baking, etc. I love to learn and a side bonus of being a therapist means I get to learn about people, their lives, their interests and a whole lot of random facts along the way. As a therapist I'm more conversational. I'll listen and ask questions to better understand your point of view as well as assist you in understanding how you formed that point of view and how it's impacting your life. I may challenge you at times in order to get you to go deeper or consider other points of view to help you make informed decisions or understand something from another person's viewpoint.
Therapy works best when you're personally motivated to make a change and remain open-minded and willing throughout the process. Realistic expectations are a must. I'm not a magician, I can't magically fix your problems with a single session, but I can help you narrow down what's bothering you and help you identify healthy coping skills and options for managing it.

Our thoughts affect how we behave, however the opposite is true as well, how we behave can impact our thoughts. Recognizing our behaviors and the thoughts that go along with them means we can change them.
How we talk to ourselves plays a huge roll not only in how we feel about ourselves but how we feel about the people and world around us. Challenging the way we talk to ourselves can change our mood, our thoughts and behaviors.
Asking questions to understand our motivation behind the things we do and the changes we want to make as well as build motivation to make those changes.
I may be the therapist but you are the expert on you and you are in charge, you decide what we talk about and what you want to work on each session.
