New to Grow
It's my goal as a therapist to help you understand how the events in your life have shaped how you move throughout the world, and use that understanding to create personal change. As a Marital and Family Therapist and Art Therapist, I have worked with adolescents, adults, and families who are navigating the effects of violence and trauma. In therapy, we will work together to identify your strengths, and find ways of coping so that you may experience growth and healing. My approach is trauma-informed and person-centered.
During our first session, we will begin building rapport and growing our therapeutic relationship. We will discuss your strengths and the challenges that have brought you to therapy, and work together to build a treatment plan tailored to your personal goals.
Therapy can often feel incredibly vulnerable, and I am passionate about providing a therapeutic environment that feels warm, welcoming, and safe while we discuss the parts of life that feel difficult to talk about. In my practice, I use a mix of talk therapy and art therapy to deeper explore symbols and patterns in my client's lives. I believe that by leading with self-compassion, we can create open and flexible perspectives about oneself and others.
Life can bring periods of distress and sadness. You might not feel like your best self. It might feel too overwhelming at times. This is when people tend to isolate, as to not burden others, or maybe there is a belief that others might not understand your unique experiences. However, you are not alone. Whether due to anxiety, trauma, violence, or relationship issues, I help clients who are motivated to create meaningful change in their lives so that they might feel confident to handle life's challenges.
Many people who have experienced trauma or violence were robbed of their sense of choice, or the feeling that they were in charge of their experiences. As a clinician, we will never explore "why" something happened to you, rather we will explore how events in your life have shaped how you view and respond to the world around you. We will use that information to create an awareness about what works best for you, both in and outside of the therapeutic space.
You have strength within you! Strengths-based therapy explores and identifies what works and has worked for you in the past, and builds upon that. We might look at perceived weaknesses and find ways to reframe them, to build compassion towards oneself.
