Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our initial meeting, patients can expect a warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental atmosphere where their concerns and experiences are prioritized. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I understand the significance of this first encounter, and I approach it with sensitivity and respect for the individual's journey. During this session, I will conduct a comprehensive psychiatric assessment, which involves gathering information about the patient's medical history, current symptoms, social support system, and any relevant psychosocial factors. This allows me to gain a holistic understanding of the patient's mental health and formulate an individualized treatment plan tailored to their needs and goals. I will take the time to explain various treatment options, including medication management, therapy modalities, lifestyle changes, and self-care strategies. Together, we will discuss the potential benefits and risks of each option, as well as any concerns or preferences the patient may have. Patients can trust that confidentiality and privacy are paramount in our interactions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

There are some parts of this job that I'm really good at. One is Patient Education and Empowerment: I take the time to educate patients about their mental health conditions, treatment options, and self-care strategies. By empowering patients with knowledge and resources, you enable them to actively participate in their treatment and make informed decisions about their health. Second is my Empathetic and Non-Judgmental Approach: Your ability to empathize with patients and create a non-judgmental environment fosters trust and open communication. Patients feel comfortable sharing their experiences and concerns with you, which is essential for effective treatment and healing. Third is My Commitment to Evidence-Based Practice: I stay current with the latest research and evidence-based practices in psychiatric care, allowing you to offer the most effective treatments and interventions to your patients. My commitment to evidence-based practice ensures that patients receive high-quality care that aligns with the latest clinical guidelines. Finally, I'm easy to talk to. I'm a real person. I know life gets tough. I have a family I love and worry about. I'm optimistic and have a good sense of humor.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to ensure that conversations are functional and effective. CBT is a highly flexible technique used to manage an array of mental illnesses. Simply put, CBT is a research-based therapy that provides direction to a conversation. CBT will raise a patient's awareness of their thoughts, feelings, and experiences when used correctly. I use CBT to help patients recognize and challenge distorted patterns of thinking. CBT aims to help patients repair and strengthen their resilience. We are all innately gifted with personal resilience and the ability to repair and restore that resilience. It is the part of us that gives us the ability to cope with emotional stress.

I honestly felt I was able to connect with Chris as a client just in the first session. Compared to other physicians I've had, it was genuinely refreshing to talk to someone who listened and responded with empathy rather than just clinical knowledge alone. Very personable, respectful, and professional, but authentically human in a way that made it easy to relax and have an open conversation about my journey on mental wellness.
