Hi there, I'm Joy. I am licensed in Texas with 18 years of professional work experience. I have helped clients work through issues of childhood trauma and abuse. I work specifically with adoptive and foster families and adult, teen and child adoptees. I am trained in attachment therapy and connective parenting. I am also trained in PREPARE/ ENRICH to help couples prepare for marriage and enhance their marriage. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Taking the first step to seek a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process.
We will work together to make some goals for therapy. We will take steps towards meeting those goals. Your homework will be tailored to what you enjoy the most, whether reading, journaling, doing worksheets, etc. We will evaluate progress towards goals and have the flexibility to change directions, when needed.
I use cognitive-behavioral techniques, attachment techniques. If my clients are children or teenagers, I will incorporate some playful techniques like games, drawing, and art. If the patient desires, I can incorporate faith-based techniques, like prayer and reading of Scripture.
I have been trained as a TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention practitioner. I have also been trained as a Cultivate to Connect practitioner. I will utilize tools to help individuals connect with loved ones and foster secure attachments. I am comfortable processing childhood abuse and neglect and giving clients tools to cope. I am comfortable working with both adoptees and adoptive parents to process issues and grief related to the complexity of adoption. I am trained in PREPARE/ENRICH to help couples prepare for marriage or strengthen their current marriage.
