Emilie Cate
Your time, energy, and resources are valuable. Therapy should feel genuinely supportive, focused, and effective. As a licensed psychologist with two decades of experience, I specialize in compassionate, solution-focused, evidence-based care tailored to your unique goals. I work with adults (18+) navigating key life transitions—including college and graduate school, family planning and postpartum, career shifts, and peri/menopause. My goal is to help you build practical tools, regain clarity, and start feeling better as efficiently as possible, so you never spend more time in therapy than you need to.
First session
It’s completely normal to feel a bit nervous before a first session, but I strive to create a warm, welcoming, and down-to-earth space right from the start. We will talk about what brought you in; what's working and what isn't. If you have questions for me, I will do my best to answer them. By the end of our first meeting, we’ll decide collaboratively if it feels like a great fit to continue working toward your goals.
Strengths
Clients often tell me that they feel instantly comfortable, deeply heard, and respected in our work. I combine genuine warmth and empathy with proven, scientific, evidence-based strategies—giving you clear insights and actionable feedback so every session feels meaningful and productive.
Ideal clients
I am best suited for adults who haven't been feeling like themselves lately, want clear solutions, and are ready to take a step forward. Whether you’ve been putting off starting therapy, are curious if counseling can actually help, or have tried therapy before with mixed results, you are welcome here. I look forward to meeting you and helping you move forward with confidence.
Treatment methods
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
I specialize in providing practical, short-term treatment designed to help you tap into your existing strengths and see real progress quickly. Our work together will be goal-oriented and collaborative, focusing on actionable steps so you can achieve meaningful change without spending years in therapy.
Compassion-Focused
My approach centers on creating a deeply supportive, non-judgmental space where you can increase self-compassion, reduce self-criticism, and work through challenges. I bring genuine warmth—and a touch of humor when appropriate—to help you feel comfortable, understood, and truly cared for.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
I identify as a white cisgender woman and am deeply committed to social justice, active anti-racism, and ongoing self-reflection in both my personal and professional life. My approach is rooted in curiosity, humility, and profound respect for who you are. I recognize that your unique, intersecting identities don't exist in a vacuum—they interact with broader social and cultural structures every day. Together, we will honor your lived experiences and explore how these dynamics shape your path, ensuring our space is always safe, validating, and aligned with your personal values.
