About me

*PLEASE READ THIS PROFILE IN FULL BEFORE SCHEDULING Good psychiatric care is about more than prescriptions — it’s about being heard and understood. Hi, I’m Teena. I’m a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with over 20 years of experience in healthcare, including extensive work as both a Behavioral Health RN and a Psychiatric NP. I bring a practical, real-world approach to psychiatric care, grounded in years of direct patient care across the lifespan. I specialize in medication management, with an emphasis on thoughtful prescribing, close monitoring, and clear communication. My goal is not simply to prescribe medication, but to help you understand treatment options and make informed decisions that fit your life. We also address factors such as sleep, stress, daily routines, and overall wellness that can significantly impact mental health. While medication management is my primary focus, I also provide brief supportive therapy to help build insight, confidence, and practical coping strategies.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first visit is a comprehensive intake designed to help me understand you — not just your symptoms. We’ll review your medical and mental health history, current concerns, medications, and relevant lifestyle factors. Together, we’ll clarify diagnoses and discuss evidence-based treatment options. You can expect a collaborative conversation, not a rushed appointment. My role is to guide and inform, while respecting your preferences and goals. Follow-up visits focus on ongoing medication management, symptom monitoring, and supportive therapy to help you stay on track and feel more confident in your care.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Patients often describe my style as calm, attentive, and practical. I value strong clinical judgment, clear explanations, and a respectful, non-judgmental approach. Bedside manner matters — especially in mental health. Most appointments are conducted via secure telehealth for convenience. Limited in-person appointments are available on Wednesdays at our Manakin-Sabot location. Scheduling is completed online through the Grow Therapy portal to ensure efficiency and timely access to care.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I primarily work with adults seeking care for ADHD, anxiety, depression, and sleep concerns such as insomnia. I do best with individuals who are open to collaboration and willing to engage in ongoing care, even when progress takes time. I value building long-term professional relationships based on trust, consistency, and mutual respect. If you’re looking for thoughtful medication management within a supportive and structured setting, I’d be glad to work with you. You’re welcome to review additional practice information on our website, Goochland Behavioral Health. Questions are always welcome through the portal. Please know that Goochland Behavioral Health is a small outpatient practice best suited for individuals who are stable and able to participate in routine follow-up. We are not equipped to provide care for higher-acuity needs such as active suicidal ideation, mania, psychosis, or 24/7 crisis support. We also do not offer detox services or medication-assisted treatment (MAT) at this time. If this sounds like the right level of care for you, I look forward to working together. NOTE: Completion of all intake paperwork, screening measures, and practice documents is required prior to an initial evaluation. This information allows for appropriate review of your concerns and determination of whether Goochland Behavioral Health is an appropriate fit for your treatment needs. Initial appointments may be canceled and rescheduled if required documentation is incomplete at the time of the appointment.

Medication may not be right for everyone, but if you've come this far in considering an appointment, you may be ready for real change. The right medication could be the key to making that change possible.

It’s been great working with Teena, she’s very receptive and attentive to any concerns or feedback I’ve had, and is very collaborative in finding solutions that work specifically for me. I’ve seen a lot of improvement since we started our sessions and I’m really happy with all the progress I’ve made.

Teena , she's very nice i think it'll take a few sessions to get things worked out. It's my first time using this platform. So I'm still navigating through things. I wasn't expecting the outcome of the meds to be so different. But I'm hoping I'll be able to get back on track with Teena's help. It was very positive , the only thing I would say is I wish there was more therapy involved with the prescriber . Not having to reach out with someone else to do your therapy sessions.

She truly listens to your concerns. She’s been patient, thoughtful, and collaborative as we’ve adjusted medications and worked through side effects. Her approach has made a real difference in helping me feel more stable and supported. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring and knowledgeable provider.
