What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The primary goals of a first session are to understand the basic concerns and needs of the client and to gather enough information to form a sound basis for treatment and effective care. In practical terms, this means providing the client with an opportunity to express the basic outline of their current difficulties and any relevant background and then asking any necessary follow-up questions to ensure sufficient understanding and information have been obtained to provide responsible and effective care.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am genuinely dedicated to learning and growing both personally and professionally and I recognize that it is a privilege to offer whatever I can to facilitate the well-being, growth, and development of another person. I strive to do so by sharing whatever may be useful that I have learned from others as well as from my own journey.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I especially enjoy helping those who might not otherwise have access to high quality care and who are ready and willing to address their concerns by making meaningful changes.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Effective psychotherapy almost always includes examining and improving the way we think and behave in order to improve how we feel and function; essentially we use the most effective and available levers we have, namely, addressing our thinking and behavioral styles so that we can optimize our well-being and minimize unnecessary suffering. In a broad sense, this is the essence of any cognitive-behavioral approach and I do my best to model and teach this orientation through dialog and conversation addressing both ongoing and more urgent concerns as needed and most likely to be helpful.

Humanistic

The heart and soul of effective therapy is grounded in recognizing and supporting the unique value of each person through fostering a relationship of care, mutual respect, and authenticity. When therapy works best, it most often entails a genuine collaboration evoking the best wisdom, intelligence, and talents of each person participating. As a collaboration, it is a partnership of equals, despite any differences of age, background, or personal characteristics. Humanistic approaches are founded on the idea that we are capable of growth, healing, and development throughout the lifespan and that our fulfillment, in large measure, lies in striving toward and realizing our positive potential.
