Hello and welcome, My primary approach to practice is based on Humanistic Psychology with an emphasis on Strength Based approaches, along with CBT, DBT, EMDR, IFS and Mindfulness. I started out as a psych major (BA) and later went into social work with a Master's in Social Work to gain a broad perspective. I also hold a PhD, in Psychology. I am licensed in Montana, Kentucky and Ohio as a LCSW and LISW respectively. I am comfortable working with a broad range, age, background and culture. Often, in therapy, it can be a little tough in the beginning, before you feel better. I have found that sometimes talking about these issues make them real, concrete, which can be very scary. My virtual office is a safe place. There is no judgement. I can work with different situations and work as a team or more of a guide to find the answers in you.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

On our first session, while it is important to get to the background information, health history, childhood, etc...it is also important that you have time to express the more pressing reasons for making the appointment. We will spend about 10-15 minutes on informed consent and basic info (I call it housekeeping) and spend the next 30-40 minutes to address your needs during the first session. In the Humanistic view, our stance is that we all hold the answers inside of us, we sometimes need assistance in bringing them out. I work from the perspective that you are the expert on you. My professional goal is to help you to feel heard, explore what you want is important to you and give you increased understanding and tools to live your life.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Years of experience with a diverse and broad clientele, adaptability, my love and curiosity of people and my desire to keep learning and growing as a therapist and human.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

As humans, we are complicated, no two people have the exact life experience, so our challenge can be how to try to make since of where we fit, what we have in common, who is safe, what feels right, what is not in this life we are living. My professional background is diverse working with clients from multiple populations (Co-occurring and SUD, LGBTQIA2S, forensic, domestic violence, depression and anxiety, older adults -ALF/ SNF, Life Stage Changes, Grief, trauma, poverty and veterans).

My treatment methods

Humanistic

As an integrative therapist, I am trained in and access multiple therapeutic modalities. With that, my foundation and core belief is rooted in Rogerian theory and in the individual's potential that stresses the importance of growth and self-actualization. In other words, we often know what is best for us, we just do not always know how to access that part of self. Therapy is a way of doing that.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Most folks are somewhat familiar with the acronym "CBT". Often it is one of the first "Go to" methods to start to identify thought patterns, intrusive thoughts, and represents more of the concrete aspects of therapy. While I use resources from CBT, in my practice, it is an adjunct treatment which for some that can be life changing and for others, it is just a part of what we might access.

EMDR

As an EMDR trained therapist, the methodology and framework are core to how I approach the work with my clients.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT provides tangible skills, replicable personal work and mindfulness to clients who often have felt like being in rough seas without any oars. I often use these skills to improve interpersonal communication with the benefits of improved confidence and empowerment for the client.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

As a Hispanic American, I personally have experienced the influence of culture in how we deal with family, work, relationships and traditions. My client base and experience is diverse and recognize the importance of understanding what influences you the client have had and currently have in your life.
