Hi! I'm a licensed therapist based in Michigan. I received my Master of Social Work from Wayne State University in Detroit and have been practicing for 12 years. I have helped many adults and children who struggle with various aspects of mental health. From depression and anxiety to substance use and family dynamics, I have had the privilege of helping people navigate difficulties in what can be a very overwhelming and stressful world.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions and getting to know each other. We will identify the specific challenges you're facing and create a tailored plan along with next steps for us to work on in follow-up sessions.
I feel my greatest strength as a provider is my experience in this field and being a lifelong learner in the areas of psychology, sociology and human behavior. Drawing from my years of helping others and my own real-world life experience, I can offer clients the empathy, compassion and a non-judgmental experience that so many in this life are seeking.
Helping clients understand how their thoughts affect feelings and behaviors is so important in educating clients how to help themselves. As a CBT Trained therapist, I have utilized various aids such as worksheets and homework to assist clients in reaching their stated goals.
Motivational interviewing can assist clients in helping make decisions to change and can play a major role in their growth. Through the use of specific questions and rolling with resistance, a therapist can aid in minimizing denials and moving out of the ambivalence that often comes as a natural part of the change process.
Using mindfulness helps people to practice "living in the moment." Whether it be grounding techniques, meditation or teaching ways to self-soothe, clients can learn to enjoy a more calm and peaceful life and reduce fears and anxieties that arise from living in a stressful world.
Helping clients become self-determined is critical to their success. Each of us has to follow our own path in our own time and manner. Listening to a client's needs, wants and preferences and reflecting back to them can help one find the answers within. It is not the therapist's role to determine what is best for a client. It is in helping the client to make the choice that is best for them that truly matters.
We all have strengths in which we can draw from. We all have our unique histories, experiences and resources from which we can draw strength and support. Helping clients find their strengths and offering encouragement can be very empowering.
