LMFT, 7 years of experience
I love to work with patients who have really reached a crossroads in deciding to confront what's holding them back and dig right into it. Processing and letting go of thoughts, beliefs, and reactions that hold you back or keep you stuck is a powerful way to take care of yourself. I have been working in behavioral health for almost 14 years when I decided to focus on EMDR over 4 years ago. Though other approaches can be helpful, I noticed the limitations of other modalities I had been practicing with. EMDR is a specialized approach to psychotherapy that is considered a successful and evidence-based practice due to the demonstrated and remarkable outcomes achieved in significantly less time compared to the often more lengthy process of traditional talk therapy alone.
First session begins history taking and education on what the process looks like and basically an opportunity for the client to ask a lot of questions. What is most bothersome in their daily life will be a priority to identify.
I am direct and comprehensive. I work hard to continue my education in areas that clients need me to. My experience a in all levels of care and is one of my biggest strengths.
Before working one on one with people in therapy, I worked in hospital settings, emergency and mobile mental health, as well as severe mental health social rehabilitation. I have a wide and varied experience with each step of care in the California system. I have also gone through my own process with EMDR and know how fast and helpful it can be.
Really investigating the root cause of present day triggers involves comprehensive history taking and resourcing. This is a therapeutic process in and of itself, but leads up to bilateral stimulation and future planning to reduce reactivity (intense emotion, mood, or unwanted behavior).
Mental flexibility, adjusting expectations, and accepting the emotions we all encounter on a daily basis are important parts of therapy work with me.
